'Gun-Like' Avatar Items to be Removed from Live Marketplace

According to a post on the Epic community forums, 'gun-like' items are set to disappear from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace as a result of a new policy instated by Microsoft.

If you already own the Lancer and/or the Hammerburst, you will be able to keep those items. Otherwise, you only have until the end of the month to get them, as they will be pulled on January 1st. There is no full list of items that will be pulled, but if it's gun-like and you want it, better get it while you still have the time. Each item costs 320 MSP.

That's a damn shame that Microsoft is pulling these items. It's not like they are showing violent acts with these weapons. If it's such a crime to have guns, then why not ban all weapons? Such as the lightsaber?

Everyone is so anal and family friendly. Any kid can turn on the tv and see guns on almost any channel, and any kid who would buy a gun like item on avatar marketplace probably has COD, Halo, BF3, Battlefield, Gears etc.

I know this is a little off subject, but you know what avatar item that Marketplace should have sold? The purple dildo weapon from Saints Row.

I'm pretty sure this was done because of avatar games coming out and the rules for use of avatars in game. One of the rules was no guns, and the one's available on the avatar marketplace are being removed due to this rule towards game developers who wish to make games using avatars. This way, they cannot say, "What about the Gears guns on the marketplace?"

Hell yes, the animations for it would be so damn funny.

This was my favourite aspect of Saints Row 3--they wouldn't let my female character be completely topless without censoring it, yet I could buy a baseball bat-sized floppy dildo and kill people with it. Priceless!

Good, as an older gamer who doesn’t play the shooters around his kids I think it’s about time. I’m sure I get heckled for this opinion, but most of the detractors either live in small trailer parks married to their first cousins or have difficulty reading over a 3rd grade reading level any way.

...either go 100% family friendly or don't do it at all. Makes you look stupid when you're three biggest cash cows are shooters yet you won't let an avatar hold anything that resembles a gun for some stupid reason.

Why not have it so that only people with Adult (over 18) accounts can buy 'gun-like' items - the same control they have in place to stop minors from playing games such as COD and Gears?
