Figured it would be a nice idea to have a thread specifically for questions regarding Xbox Live, and to start us off here is mine.

I was trying to rent "Book of Eli" on Zune and it kept giving me a purchase error message. All of my credit card information is current and I have over 1,600 points..so it's neither of those. Has anyone else had anything happen similar to my problem?

Great idea.. I too have questions at times!

But to answer you're question. Yes, I've had it happen to me. I've found out that it is mostly just kinks in the XBL service. I wait an hour or a day and then suddenly I can purchase it. So I'd say wait.

I know it wasn't too much info, but I hope I could help.

I had the same problem once when the Zune video thing had just come out, I was trying to "rent" a movie and kept getting a 'purchase error'.

I logged back in a few hours later and was able to complete it ok, so yeah I guess the only advice is wait a little bit, it could be the net in your area is bogged or their servers might be hit hard, I've noticed XBL can be a little picky when purchasing points online too.

Now that I think about it, I do have a couple things that could help!

One thing you could try is a) re-entering your credit card info.. I found that helped once. b) Signing in and signing out a couple hours later (as Meta pointed out), and possibly c) if all else fails you could try to purchase it on Xbox.com and cue it to your Xbox downloads.
