Ever wanted to be a King? How about ruling over a group of monsters from your wildest dreams? Well now you can; here is my review of Where The Wild Things Are. This kid friendly action/platformer is loosely based on the beloved children’s book by Maurice Sendak, as well as the Warner Brothers movie of the same name.
You play the role of Max, the newly appointed King of the Wild Things, in all sorts of adventures. This game was an enjoyable play, but be warned it will get repetitive quickly. The world of the Wild Things is being devoured by a dark, ominous goo and you will need to help the Wild Things escape to a new home on the moon. The controls for this game are fairly straight forward: You attack with the X button, and jump with the A button. If you run low on health you can go up to a Wild Thing and press the Y button to get a hug and replenish your health.
On to the graphics: This game looks really good, for the most part. At times it can get a bit too dark, but turning up the gamma on your t.v. can remedy this issue. The character models are well done and the animations are good as well. The sounds in this title are spot on, and the voice acting is superb. The Wild Things sound just like their counter-parts from the movie.
On the achievement side of things for the most part they are easy to come by. There are the typical complete the game on the various difficulty level achievements, but there are some that will drive you nuts. If you have an aversion to collectible achievements then you might want to pass this up because there are a ton of collectibles in this for you to find.
Your kids will like this game as I did, but if you are a hardcore gamerscore person this might be a pass for you, although it does deserve at least a rental. I enjoyed it a lot, but that might be due to my memories of my mother reading me the book as a child. I give it a 6.
