such a badass video! i remember it came on my Metal for the Masses Vol. 666 CD/DVD that along with Suicide Silence's "No Pity for a Coward". i loved that song so much i even went and bought the shirt that says Suicide Silence on the front and on the back it says "Pull the Trigger Bitch!"
but besides that, i am now listening to Becoming [*] (Pantera Cover) by Synthetic Breed.

ha! agreed. i guess some people just cant let go.
Quote by Last.fm:
"We had our name because in high school, one of our best friends, Jon Hershey, was also our vocalist at the time. But, right before he joined the band, he was dating this girl named August. The relationship got a bit out of hand, and he really wanted to end it. So, he ended the relationship and instead of just getting sad about it, she got really, really, really, angry, and Jon at the time had a dog named Redd. It was an Irish setter and it had red fur and everything. So, she got really mad, went up to his house, and burned his dog Redd alive, in his dog house. The name and everything comes from, because the next day, the headline of the newspaper in the local news was “August Burns Red,” and then we just kind of went with it. It really affected Jon, so when we were picking a band name, that was one that stuck in his head, so he decided to use it. So, our name doesn’t mean anything, it just had a really weird and kind of gross meaning.”

Yeah, I remember the first time I read about how the band got their name. I didn't think it was true, considering how twisted it was. But of course it was true, but damn.

i honestly think thats the only band i know with that much of an f'd up history with their name. only other thing i think of is Cattle Decapitation, and the entire band is a bunch of fucking vegetarians. oh the irony.

currently jamming to
Gray Sublime Archon by
Eluvetie. ive been listening to them for a little under a year, and i LOVE their Slania album. so when i saw Meta's snippet about them, i thought i might as well post it.

ELUVEITIE - Slania (2008)
Strictly speaking, Eluveitie plays 'paegan metal', but it also fits into the larger sub-genre of 'folk metal'. What this means is that on top of the usual heavy drums & guitars and growled/yelled vocals, there is also some clean singing and a lot of music using traditional ethnic & classical instruments.
The vocals are mixed nicely, lower than most of the music but still discernable. This lets the varied & eclectic instrumentation shine. Eluveitie uses fiddles, flutes, mandolins, and the awesome hurdy gurdy to add an extra dimension to their songs. There are even some brief but well-done female vocals. The actual structure and note usage implies a Celtic and perhaps Gaelic influence, though the band is from Switzerland.
The more 'metal' moments of the band on this album are mostly either the fast, blast beat variety or slower, more groove-heavy passages. Only about 1/4 of the CD is very fast or heavy, and on these tracks the ethnic instruments take a backseat and accentuate the music rather than take the lead as they do on others. There are also 4 really good instrumental tracks here, including the intro which does an awesome job setting the tone for the rest of the album. The CD booklet includes all lyrics as well as notes detailing the story behind the songs and some of the history.
If you like heavy music but can appreciate some diverse instrumentation, I thoroughly recommend this album. The only reason I don't call it a 10/10 is because, while the hurdy gurdy and fiddle and all are a pleasant surprise and well-executed, the actual "metal" here is very by-the-books and hopefully their next album will contain more dynamic heaviness that will match the killer flute solos.
Score: 9 / 10
Songs to listen to:
