If I recall correctly (I don't pay attention to PS3 News too much) Sony only sued one person, which they settled btw, and that was GeoHotz. He doesn't hack to defy authority, he hacks to use a console (or iDevice
) to it's full potential which is reasonable when you pay for a $300+ System. There's nothing wrong with modifying a system to use it to your own pleasure (Homebrew, run back-ups). I only hate people who mod to use it to gain an advantage in online play.

Update bout this: so there was 5 guys that did this. The 1st guy jail-broke his ps3 so that he could play any kind of game on it, xbox games any game mostly. Then he put how to do it on youtube. Then Sony caught him and got him thrown in prison. Then his 4 other friends hacked the ps3to get back at Sony for throwing his friend in prison. So then they hacked into the network and they stole everyone's info. And the reason that ps3 has free internet is because there security system sucks so bad, it has simple algebra protection. Microsoft security is mad good, that's why we pay for it because its good.
