Project NATAL = HUGE Money Maker for MS
05/27/10 10:42 am | #1
According to these two sources I found, thanks to one of the people who wrote one article recently following me on twitter, I have found out that Microsoft's Project NATAL is going to make them some SERIOUS, money.
Here's the main article I found that talks about this, and here's what they said.
http://www.edge-online.com/news/natal-to-cost-149-%E2%80%93-source
Quote by Edge Online:
Natal will launch in the US this October with a price tag of $149.
That’s according to a trusted source, who told us that the motion sensing camera will also be bundled with the Xbox 360 Arcade console for $299.
We were informed that prices outside of the US would be determined based on a number of factors, including exchange rates. Based on current rates, the standalone unit would retail for £103 / €121, and the console and Natal bundle for £207 / €243.
The figure for the standalone unit is significantly higher than a previous sub-£50 estimate, but less than pricing recently suggested by European retailers. It’s also more expensive than Sony’s Natal rival Move, which will be available later this year with a game for less than $100.
Our source said that the device has been pencilled in for an October 26 worldwide launch, although we were advised that the date could yet shift by a few weeks either way.
We were also told Microsoft’s camera definitely won’t be called Natal and that its proper title will be revealed at E3 next month. It will also be heavily targeted at causal players and families.
“Microsoft expects to sell millions and millions of Natal units in its first year on the market so you can expect the software launch line-up to target non-traditional gamers,” our source said. “A major marketing campaign will also play a key role in attracting and educating the expanded audience about Xbox 360’s controller-free revolution.”
When contacted about this report, Microsoft told us that it "does not comment on rumour or speculation”.
Also, here's a brief summary of this on the page that linked me to the main article. These are the people who followed me, which is how I learned about this.

How much is too much for Xbox’s highly anticipated motion tracking system, Project Natal?
According to
Edge, Project Natal will be available in October for a whopping price of $149.
Dude.. I could buy a Best Buy refurbished Xbox 360 for that much! Add another $50 and I could buy a brand new console with 2 games!
With Sony’s PS3 Move promising to be less than $100, what’s your deal, Microsoft? Why so steep?

Just FYI, there is a full article there. You just have to access the article from the home page to see it. It doesn't show if you just enter the topic normally for some reason.

ouch, but if the price goes down and the interface is best, i might, MIGHT, consider it. But as of right now Natal and SWTFUII is set for the same date, and if u use two lightsabers i dont know this date might b real.

idk why the article wont show up normally O.o but yea access it from homepage articles itll work, or so someone said
and tbh, the ONLY time id ever find ANY sort of motion sensing gaming acceptable AT ALL, is if i get to wear a full body suit and any/everything i do/say my character does. kinda like that movie Gamer. everything you did, the guy did. or like the robots in Avatar. every motion the guy made, the robot suit made.
other then that, motion sensing is a fail

It does that occasionally. Don't know what causes it, I copied the original article and pasted in your post so it appears in both places now

here's the situation, one it's way to expensive. "casual" gamers aren't going to pay that when they can get a wii with 2 games...for 50 dollars more. We don't know what games support it, and imo it'll definitely bust at this price point.

cant you buy a refurbished WII for around $150? so the market they are targeting could just buy a WII or they probably already have a WII. Would someone who doesn't own a WII and want a family fun system like natal really spend $300 for one (assuming they dont already have a 360)? Come on Microsoft I mean really? there is no way that is gonna be the price because if it is they are not gonna sell millions of units. If this came out 2 years ago I could see them selling millions with that price but not now. Either drop the price or be prepared for an EPIC FAIL.
