Possible Slimmer 360 in the Future?

The attached pic is posted over on Kotaku, and supposedly shows the insides of a new xbox 360 model. Microsoft has been hit or miss with Falcon and Jasper chipsets; they have solved Red Ring to a slight degree, but they have both been just internal changes. What makes this special? If you notice, aside from being quite smaller then other boards, this unit also combines the GPU and CPU onto one single chip.

At the moment, this is only a rumored redesign of the console; not just a new board for existing hardware, but a total redesign of the console ala PS3 Slim. Kotaku states that there is every reason to be skeptical with this info and pic, however they and myself believe that with the release of Natal later this year, it would make quite a bit of sense to redesign the console, reduce cost, and prepare it for motion sensing gaming. Thoughts?

I dunno about motion sensing gaming; wouldn't we just get wii's if we wanted that? I am however, all for a slimmer model. Right now I have to have mine vertical and my dogs tail threatens my 360 every time he comes tromping in my room.

Hahah that made me giggle. I had my 360 knocked over while playing call of duty once...the sound of the laser digging into my disk has scarred me for life...

I don't have space on my entertainment center to keep it horizontal. And I'm sure as hell not putting it on the carpet..

I have to agree with Grinch: If they are combining the GPU and CPU onto one chip, that may very well reduce heat in the box and solve some of the red ring issues. However, this means that now one chip has the potential to get twice as hot. If this does lead to a smaller 360, Microsoft needs to keep that in mind...I mean they need to, but they probably won't and it will lead to many more internal hardware revisions.

That is also a possibility; adding Natal, but keeping the box essentially the same size. Slimmer consoles has been Sony's M.O. since the PSX, however not once in the original Xbox's console did we ever see mention of making it smaller, and that thing was beastly.

i can see them slimmin down the console when they come out with natal as it could also cut down costs for them and allow them to have a bigger install rate for people lookin to buy a new 360 around then just for the natal because theyd prolly logically lower the price. but thats prolly too smart for them to do, and as for solving the RRoD thatll prolly never happen, good thing my 360s been good to me for a long time(knock on wood)
