1) Don't know how to be nice - You are correct - They don't. Manners are not taught at home or anywhere anymore. My kids have manners because I was taught them and I have passed it onto them. It is a parents responsibility to teach their children proper manners, mannerisms + etiquette; at least the basics. "Please + thank you's" to start out, etc, etc.
2) Parents are confused. I don't beleive so, I think that they weren't taught properly either, thus not passing on proper information to their offspring. Thus, they beget rude children which the rest of us then have to deal with.
3) Competitiveness? Yes, we are Americans, and we are extremely competitive. Mostly from dealing with our lack of education and lack of example.
Sorry. This is just a hot button with me. End of rant.
