Need some help with network connection issues
08/21/11 11:22 pm | #1
So I just bought a 360 slim so I could use the wireless and I'm not sure if there is an issue with xbox live right now or not but I can't seem to connect. I'll turn it on and try to connect and it tells me 'can't connect, test your connection", blah blah blah so I run a test and the xbox connects to the wireless and the wireless connects to the internet but when it tries to connect to Live, the bar gets about 1/3 the way then it says to download a system update so I say yes and when it pops up with the downloading screen it will say can't connect to xbox live and I pretty much repeat the process. I'm not exactly sure what to do since my roommate has the same console and is connected to the same wireless and he never has trouble connecting.

Well I finally somehow managed to get through the system update when I try to test connection the bar still gets about 1/3 of the way then says 'there is a problem with your connection. It says that its connected to the internet but can't contact xbox live and says to the router off and back on. Its weird because I go to turn the other xbox on and it connects just fine
Edit: I'm moving in a week so I'll just continue to play on the roommates xbox til I move. Maybe its the ISP we have not sure but I can wait a week to see whats wrong. Thanks for the help Ashley

Hopefully this might help. I recently had similar issues with my Xbox and other devices connected to my home network suddenly and randomly losing the internet connection, except that everything here was connected with wires to the modem. Long story made short -- after twice contacting my ISP for help, they sent a service tech out to test connections here and finally found out that the signal from the ISP was being interrupted somehow and after replacing the modem that we'd had for over 11 years, we haven't had any problems since.
