WOW...that sucks uber balls. Gamertag recovery fucked up for me a few times.
I rememeber a couple of weeks ago, I was trying to recover my gamertag (I was clearing up space by deleting unused accounts deleted mine on accident =S) and it would always download and 1/4th of the way and say "Xbox LIVE Signup is not available, Please try again later" I though meh and tried recovering for about 3 hours... Same result. I also tried to recover another account
Same result, I didn't get to play all that day (June 9th). It Recovered fine the next day.
so Hopefully you can recover your account, try again tommorow.

Can you sign into xbox.com with your old tag? If you can, run through the steps to change the email and password linked to the account... On my friend's list it shows that it was on xbox.com like 2 hours ago..

I had the same thing happen with my other account... I was at 36,000 when one day bam I couldn't sign in nor was my information working. I phoned MS and they basically said some how someone has obtained my information. So, the best thing for me to do was holdout. Well, after about a month I had my old profile back. However, at that point I had created xMr Bay so I could still play while I waited for my account to be returned. In that months time I put up around 20,000 with almost a prefect completion percent. That was literally one of the most rewarding things to happen to me in my gaming career. Yes, I lost a ton of time but, I probably would have never replayed a lot of fun yet easy games. If you want some more information/words of wisdom hit me up.
