Meeting Kevin Smith
07/21/11 11:51 pm | #1
I just found out today that Kevin Smith is coming to Montreal for an encore screening of Red State. He had missed the Canadian premier of his film last week. Now hes coming back, with a Q&A session after the film as well as getting a free copy of the movie when it comes out. I have to say I'm pretty stoked to go and possibly have a chat with the man himself and as a film student, this is a big deal to me. Gotta think of some questions to ask him lol

I would hope question one would be, "How did it feel to work so close to silent bob?".
That's like a dream come true for me man, and to even try to think of what to ask is a huge task. Good luck.

I'd like to know his inspirations that led to the creation of his characters, Jay and Silent Bob.

Whatever you do, don't ask him this. I'm sure he gets asked that question more times than he cares to answer. If you really wanna ask him serious like film student questions, ask about what kinda films and genres inspired him to write and direct and shit like that.

Ask him how he feels "dick and fart joke movies" can settle in to an appreciable niche in a turbulent industry fraught with post-modern reductionism and the constant battle between the writer's baroque, myopic sociopolitical commentaries & the actors' narcissistic natures and their inherently histrionic excision of archetypical genre tropes.
Then ask him what the fuck "snooch to the nooch" means cause Jay is my fuckin' hero.

I think that has to be the greatest paragraph I have ever read haha
But if I do ask anything, I think I would ask, where he got the idea for making Red State. Its so far away from what people know about Kevin Smith, I'd love to know

Don't ask him anything pretaining to why he didn't direct the last Superman movie.

He was never supposed to direct, he did write a draft for the Superman script but it got rejected and theres some funny stories behind that that he has talked about in his Q&As

Oh that's right. My bad. Don't ask him about his script then.
