ME2 Insanity
12/09/13 1:28 pm | #1
I have some free time coming up and I was thinking about going back and 100% ME2. This includes beating the game (and the Shadow Broker's Lair) on insanity. Just wondering if it is awful/worth it/doable and if anyone has got any tips for me (i.e. best class to play as, or best guns to use in certain missions) to make it go a bit smoother?

I think the best class for higher difficulties is Sentinel with Energy Drain, Tech Armor. But it's really dependent on your play-style.
Best tip: Use cover!!!

Check out TA's guides for No One Left Behind and Insanity here for helpful hints. Biggest take-aways - do all the side missions, gain everyone's loyalty, and save often!

I used Soldier just because of the range of weapons available. Also, I used a character that I had used in another run, so she was a higher level and lots of money and perks. There are a ton of hints out there to help out. In one case, open the door and clear out the room before stepping into the room or area.

Darn lol I'm normally a soldier or an engineer. I may try out the sentinel now, though. Thanks!

Sentinel provides the best survival option. Honestly I found Soldier the absolute hardest option on insanity but the easiest on normal. Better snag barrier if you go that route.

I did it with my Sentinel. I agree with Vermillion that it's the best option to go with.

Good luck! The last boss fight is a bitch and it took me about twenty times to finally beat it.

Thanks! Yeaaah, I'm not looking forward to that or the collector's ship.

Very doable, I pretty much rolled soldier for every playthrough, but any class is very capable of doing it...as long as you import the file from the first game, the creation of a character without an import would be a lot more difficult heh

Yeah if you start a new playthrough having completed the game- you get that extra bonus power. Definitely take Barrier since it'll double your shields. Don't reply the same game (starting you at your last experience level) because the enemies level up with you- so make sure you're starting at level 1. The extra money boost (from a completed game) helps you to get weapon / health upgrades early on.
Personally I tired Sentinel and couldn't get past the Mordin level. Tech armor wasn't the problem- I kept running out of ammo. With Soldier class, you have all the weapons unlocked, and can switch between assault rifles and sniper rifles, and finish off with pistols and sub machine guns if you're getting low. I rarely had an ammo problem.
Also- at the mid-point with the collector ship- if you're solider, you can unlock the (forget the name) ultimate assault rifle, which does a hell of a lot more damage, or the black widow sniper rifle. Any other class, you're just picking another generic weapon (like assault rifle basic).
The game gets a lot easier after the Mordin / Garris levels, too. Once you can pile on the shield / health upgrades, the 30-90% mark is fairly easy. But the last level can be a bit tricky. The final boss is also a lot easier with Solider- by using that focus power- that slows time-- allows you to sniper the boss' eyes frozen.

I was wondering about ammo and possibly running out of it. That is what was making me lean toward being a soldier again. And I forgot that they have adrenaline rush too! I'm planning on starting this this week so I guess I have some decisions to make.
Thanks for your advice!

I'm sure Sentinel is fine- I'm speaking from my personal experience, my 1st insanity was Sentinel and I figured the body armor would help the curve. But I was stuck on Mordin's mission with the health-regenerating Vorta... their life seriously sprints back to full, so since I only had a pistol and sub-machine gun, my ammo ran out-- teammates dead-- and I had incinerate I think... but it made me quit.
Grunt and Miranda were most helpful, Miranda because of the squad damage / health upgrade, i.e. helping YOU since you'll be doing 95% of the killing. Grunt has regenerating health and big shields, so he tended to stay alive. Speaking of Grunt- when you get to his homeworld... go in the med-bay (by that transport truck thing, to the right of it). The map doesn't give you an indication you can BUY things there- so I didn't know about it until my last playthrough. It's got another round of weapon upgrades- so another 25% or so power. I (think) there's a shield upgrade there too, and every little bit helps.
