Mass Effect 1 before 2?

I ordered Mass Effect 2 off of amazon for $11 the other day on one of their lightning deals. I have never played Mass Effect 1 and had no intention of playing 2 either.

I heard 1 is a lot slower than 2, which is a major turn off for me. I can't stand slow games.

So those who have played both or just one...what do you think. Do I need to pick up Mass Effect 1 and play it through or am I good just playing through #2?

1 sucks. 2 is where it's at.

I played through 1 start to finish, but it probably took me a good few weeks because I couldn't stand to play it more than 30 minutes at a time. 2 had me hooked from the moment I put it in my xbox. I think the first day I played it for about 8 hours straight. I'd play 2, I wouldn't waste my time with 1.

Mass Effect 1 isn't nearly as good as Mass Effect 2, but playing Mass Effect 2 without the first one isn't a good idea. Unless you read up on the back story, the second game will make very little sense.

Also, since ME2 imports your decisions from the first game, a lot of the time you'll have no idea why certain things are so because if you don't import the game randomly generates the decisions for you.

What I recommend you do is get Mass Effect 1 cheap somewhere and just blow through the main story. Don't do any side missions or extra stuff. That way you get to play ME2 pretty quickly, and still know the story and get to pick your own decisions. Just my opinion.

I had 3 saves from ME1 and no matter what I did it would not import my saves or do anything of that nature. A couple of my friends had the same problem.

I really enjoyed ME1. Of course, it has its "where-was-i-supposed-to-go" moments, but the storyline is very captivating.

I haven't gone far in ME2, but I can't wait to see the consequences of certain decisions in my ME1 run. That's if I can remember what they were, it's been a long time.

I'd definitely play the first one, at least do a speed run and get to know better the characters and comprehend better the full picture.

Did you make sure to wait until after the credit at the end of the game? Because the importable save is an autosave that occurs after the end of the credits.

Seems my initial reasoning for never playing it still holds....I'm not much of a guy to get into the story of a game. I'm all about gameplay. I don't have time for long playing sessions every day so even if I play a couple hours one day...then come back to it 3 days later....I've lost the story in my mind already anyway.

I'll see if I can borrow #1 from a friend and try blasting through it over Xmas Break. If it's too boring I'll just jump straight into #2. Thanks guys.

After seeing the trailer for ME3 I decided to go back to ME1&2 and play through them again. It took me 30 hours to beat ME1, but that was trying to go for the achievements for beating a majority of the game with 2 of the characters. If it wasnt for that then it prolly would have taken 20 or so hours which isnt bad because it has a very good story. Im working through ME2 now to see what happened since i completely changed all my outcomes from ME1, but i would definitely suggest running through ME1, if not to just get the story down, because it is an amazing story.

Yea I tried everything. At the ME2 screen where you pick your loads is said none of my gamesaves could be loaded.

I just got mine today as well. I got Mass Effect 1 in February, and never played it, so I am trying to decide whether or not to try and speed through ME1 first.

If you don't care about the story skip 1, number 2 is way more better especially if you are just looking for gameplay and no story line

ME1 is the most boring ass of a game I ever played. Next to Oblivion. I never even finished the first.

Mass Effect 2 is the bomb diggity... best game I have played since Shenmue on the Sega Dreamcast. If you wanna know the Mass Effect story, IGN has like a 5 minute video on youtube that sums up the first games story.

Mass Effect, and Bioware games in general are HIGHLY focused on story. If you don't want the story, you probably should have saved your money. However, I would suggest at least trying to run through ME 1's story quickly because you may just like the story for once.

since u don't care kent just play ME2 way more action in it
I think u will like it wayyy more the 1st game was slow but wasn't to bad
