Yep, that's exactly what happens. And no, we're not a plague or virus; the bit about being assimilated and resistance being futile come from the Borg (Google it if you don't know what the Borg are).
you mean the Borg from Star Trek? my fav episodes are the ones with the Borg in them. i remember the episode when they captured Capt. Picard and assimilated him. Picard is so much better than Kirk.
