Hurricane Irene

So I'm in New Jersey as some of you may know and we are currently being hit with this bitch Irene, the bulk of which is due to arrive at 2 AM. Homeless people in towns near mine are holding people up at gun point and everyone's evacuating to 'safe areas'.
I was just wondering if anyone else here has been affected by this??

Try living through Katrina. 6 weeks with no power and 3 months no tv or radio and no water. Add in eating MRE's for 6 months because there was a very limited food supply because you could only go shopping with 2 armed guards for 10 minutes and only 2 people allowed in a store at a time then we can talk.

Irene sounds like an old lady to me. I'm deciding to rename her either Igor, Ishmael, Imogene or Iraq...

No and I'm sorry I made the post. I just got tired of hearing/reading how horrible this storm is when in reality it could be a lot worse. We had winds of 185mph and about 35 feet of water. I know NYC is way more populated than where I live to the potential for wind damage is great, but this in reality is not the monster storm everyone is making it out to be.
Bay, that sucks about your friends car. Hope his/her insurance doesn't give them the runaround.

Google: twin span post Katrina and Katrina national guard. That was why I finally blew up after 7 news stations down here kept saying what a catastrophe Irene is/will be

Yeah, the media is way over hyping this shit. I feel for people in like Jersey and Manhattan where it may flood the shops (Good Wood ) but other than that this was a joke. Advice don't bother with the market just stop by the liquor store.
@Breesyst10 yeah hopefully or he maybe bumming rides hahaha.

I guess the big deal is that one storm affecting almost one fifth of the US population. Wide spread power outages and massive flooding is never a good thing. Most food has to be thrown out after just a few hours with out refrigeration, weather its bad or not. Have that on a wide area and there will be shortages let alone other problem with that many people with out power.
Yes the media is hyping it up but remember there is a lot of stupid people out there that don't head warnings. They don't ALL live in Michigan....!!!
