We can't be certain of this though. Most people said buy the season pass if you think you'll use two of the characters, most people also liked Kenshi and were on the fence about Rain. So when Freddy was revealed people bought the season pass just to see how he'd fit in MK, I'll be honest I was one of the people that really just wanted to see how Freddy did (and he fits quite well IMO).
Also anyone that bought the season pass prior to Freddy being revealed counts as a person purchasing the Freddy DLC due to the way the season pass was set up so its complitly plausible people wanted two of the other characters but just wanted to see what else they could get out of it so waited to purchase the season pass.
