We all obviously love gaming but are there any readers out there? What are some of your favorite books? Who are your favorite authors?

For me, I like Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, and anything star wars.

My favorite books are:
1. The Bear and the Dragon (TC)
2. Valhalla Rising (CC)
3. Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter

I like reading books about useless information. Did you know the bible is translated in many languages, including Klingon and Romulan, languages from the star trek series?

Or if you could rearrange the words "Mother in law" to spell "Woman Hitler?"

very true that is. everyone has an opinion and theyre allowed to have it. personally im agnostic, so the only thing i believe in te bible is there is some sort of God xD the other stuff...not so much....youd have to PROVE Noah's Ark, Jesus, the parting of the river/sea/whateverthehellitwas, and pretty much everything in there...if you can prove it, i might believe it...but theres nothing to prove/disprove jesus, noahs ark, etc...just some stuff written down on paper that could so easily be changed and rewritten thousands of times..

I don't think so. I think he's saying that the knowledge that the bible was translated into klingon (a Star Trek language) is useless.

Scary, right? If you like 1984, give Brave New World a whirl. It's another dystopian novel, but it paints a similar society that is a little harder to hate. Ever since I've read it, I've had a hard time defining my values.

My favorite book is a US History textbook The American Pageant. My AP US History class used it last year, and I fell in love with it. It's consistently witty and gave me a new appreciation for history. I ended up writing one of my college essays about it.

Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials (a trilogy) is also a favorite of mine.

A couple of weeks ago I read Ayn Rand's We the Living. As I was reading it I loathed it, but I pushed through, and somehow, by some miracle, I came out of it really liking it. I might've just really taken to her message and not so much to her writing. It's persuasive... But it can be agonizing at times.

I read a good bit.

Just a few I have read and liked are:

The Sword of Truth Series, by Terry Goodkind
The Shannara Series, by Terry Brooks
The The Wheel of Time Series, by Robert Jordan, RIP
The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, who is taking over the WoT series since Jordan passed.
The Halo books, which are a great tie in to the games if you are interested. Eric Nylund wrote the majority of them.
Also, a damn good series if I say so myself, is A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin.

I read a ton of comic book related novels. Like Spider-Man, X-Men, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Batman, JLA, and so forth.

Fixed. lol

Super Hyper X, if you like books with useless information, and you like comedy, you should check out Brain Droppings by George Carlin. It's just a bunch of random stories, observational humor and lists. It's one of those 'toilet books' in which you can just pick it up and open to any page and start reading. I recommend it to about anyone!

Yes! Brave New World is an awesome book. I also really like His Dark Materials and recommend it to anyone that enjoys things like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Nancy Drew. Another series I recommend to this crowd is The Dark Tower by Stephen King, really awesome adventure fiction with elements of sci-fi and fantasy.

I haven't read Ayn Rand's We the Living but I'll have to track it down now because I enjoyed Atlas Shrugged and Fountainhead despite how heavy-handed they can get at times. Anyone out there that is a big fan of the story/atmosphere of Bioshock should give them a gander. And by that I mean a read, not a goose.

I really, really love The Giver by Lois Lowry and I literally recommend it to everyone, regardless of age or usual reading habits. Read it! Now.

Anyone that likes Star Wars, I recommend the first "official" extended universe books, the trilogy by Timothy Zahn that starts with Heir to the Empire. Really well-written and they retain a lot of the feel of the original stories that some of the more recent Star Wars EU fiction has lost.

People that like gritty fiction with a bit of social relevance and some bite, I recommend Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut.

If you liked the movie Fight Club and its dark sense of humour and fractured story telling, it's original author Chuck Palahniuk has a bunch of other books out there. The ones I've read were crazy and awesome. I think Choke was the one I really liked.

Anyone that likes religious texts/the Bible or whatever, you ought to read the Book of Enoch (it's technically 1 Enoch as there are 2 other texts with similar names). It's by far the most intriguing of the "non-canon" Biblical apocrypha that the Catholic church decided to conveniently leave out of your Bibles.

If you're in to philosophy at all, you might be sick of having Nietzsche shoved down your throat, but if you find a good translation, maybe with some good footnotes and such, some of his writing really is incredible and thought-provoking even if you don't strictly buy into his ideas as practical living guidelines. Also Sprach Zarathustra, The Antichrist, Der Wille zer Macht, almost everything I've read by him is powerful in its own way as long as you keep an even perspective and take care to see how they relate to each other. If you're not in to philosophy then I actually wouldn't recommend them because the heavy-handed nature of his iconoclasm makes it to easy to say "Hey, yeah!" when you're reading his texts and fork up the next few years of your life :D
