did the 360 need HD-DVD???

I've been reading a lot of articles lately about producers needing more space for the upcoming games.

now we all know MS chose to use or rather stick with DVD9. now don't get me wrong they done a good job of keeping the console alive, since Rage and Tekken 6 producers are complaining about space I was wondering should they have used the HD-DVD as a medium for game???:confused:
