Activision and Modern Warfare 2 have been taking some heat this week, first about the steep 1200 Microsoft Point price tage of their new Stimulus Map pack, and then even more on the issues they had during the release of the map pack. In direct response to this release, Dice, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer, released a free map pack entitled the VIP 2 Map Pack, which went live on the same day. Both EA and Dice seem to be happy with the result of releasing this map pack.
In an interview with Xbox World 360 magazine, Patrick Bach, senior producer at DICE, stated that
Bach went on to tell say that a "generous" amount of DLC is planned for Bad Company 2. First off, I will be amazed if both EA and Microsoft continue to allow free maps for one of the 360's hottest multiplayer titles. As we learned from Epic and Gears of War, the developer does not set the price points for DLC: Microsoft has the final say. I think its great that they are even trying, though, and shows a real appreciation for their customers. If they can keep it up, they may just be able to topple the giant that is Modern Warfare 2. Only time will tell...
