honestly, noticing the out of hand discussions and the embarressment of posting a thread topic already posted(i.e. my "Halo Waypoint thoughts" thread) the ability to close your own thread should be put in your thread somewhere in YOUR thread. if you created it, you can close it. not anyone else close it, not close it then later re-open it, close it. period. it stops a big outrage that can be avoided otherwise. sure, the mods have the ability to close threads, but the ambush of people talking stuff that doesnt need to be heard any longer can happen with a few moments of the thread being created. also, as said before, if you fail miserably and create a thread already on the site, you can save some heat and close it. sure, everyone is constantly reminded to "use the search bar fags" but admit it, a majority of us are lazy as hell. or new to the site. so, can we please stop the drama, and give the thread creater the ability to close his own thread?

While this sounds like a good idea, in theory, I believe the negatives would outweigh the positives. What is to stop someone from making a thread bashing a member they are having an arguement with, only to quickly close it. Then those members retaliate by doing the same, so on, so forth. What we would end up with is six pages of new topics created since you last logged in, and three pages worth of closed threads.
If members cannot maintain a level of maturity high enough to be courteous to each other in threads, or cautious enough to check the search bar quickly before creating a new thread, then how can they handle an administrative privilege to close their own threads? A few ruin it for the majority, it seems.

I see your point, as I have thought it would be a good idea too. But at the same time, what Hektic says is also true. People would abuse it.
I like it because I would like to make a thread of just the welcome tour, and close it immediately after making it, so it would be the only post. It would be my thread/post, so I would still be able to update it when needed, and it would make it so much easier to post the "Welcome" in the intro threads, as I would just have to post a link to said thread, instead of the 20 page TOUR itself. lol.
