I have $100.00 to my name right now and I really need a phone. Any suggestions would help.
I have heard about that cheap phone company at Walmart, 'straight talk' and that sounds good, but it's a Walmart thing which makes me suspicious.
How about used? Are there any phones out there that are worth buying used?
I bought one of these for my kid in an attempt to instill some sort of responsibility in him and help him learn to pay for things. You buy your phone from them (they have varying prices depending on what you want). I'm also told you can bring certain phones of your own, but I don't know. They have a few different plans, hinged on what phone you are using.
Basically, if you get a smartphone, you're looking at 45.00 a month plan. A non smartphone is like 30. I think the 30$ plan has 1000 messages and unlimited minutes. The 45$ plan is unlimited text/talk/data (obviously no tethering or abuse of the "unlimited"). After tax or whatever, my son's is 46.51 a month.
They say the phones run on Verizon towers but I don't know how true that is. You can also put your credit card on for instant monthly renewal, otherwise you'll need to hit up Walmart for their prepay straight talk cards.
Its not a bad deal, Verizon itself offers a prepay also. I pay 15$ a month for my mom to have a flip phone. You only pay on days you use it (.99 usage fee/.10 minute/free mobile to mobile in Verizon). She probably uses 3 days a month. My dad uses less and 100$ buys him a whole year of service.
