Call of Duty Black Ops: Hit or Miss?

Hey all, I didn't really feel like writing an article about this because I feel like this will get shit on by some fanboys.

Anyways, I'm sure Black Ops is on a lot of peoples minds lately. With only a few weeks left until its arrival everyone is getting ready for another extravaganza. But will this one be successful? We all know that in the past Treyarch hasn't always been 100% on game-making. They have a tendency of just putting a bunch of things together last minute almost making it look like a expansion to whatever Infinity Ward created. Will this game be any different?

Every game has its faults but it seems like its been a trend ever since World at War released for Call of Duty games to have game breaking mistakes. For me personally I feel like this game won't be any different then the others. For some who may not know some of the more in-depth details on this game here are some that leave a bad taste in my mouth.

-Sniping is going to be incredibly challenging in this game. With this not being as big of deal to me, a lot of people have always enjoyed sniping in Call of Duty games because it is more user friendly.

- Even with Stopping Power being removed from the game. I have seen some videos of the private beta that Treyarch made for whoever and it looks like even with no stopping power it still looks like its going in the system of whoever sees them first gets the kill. Don't get me wrong I love that they are making more perks available now since in previous COD games it seemed like you HAD to use Stopping power.

- Making shotguns a primary weapon is great, but according to people they are about as worthless now as they were in Call of Duty 4 and World at War. Now the game hasn't released yet, I know that and I can really make a valid conclusion but from what I've heard from professional people it doesn't look all that good.

So it MAY look like that this game is going to be a lot of Assault Rifles and Sub-Machine guns. And we know in World at War that Sub-Machine guns ran the game.

So overall, (and if you read all of this I thank you,) this game has left me thinking. Being a Call of Duty "veteran" (have been playing since COD2) this series just doesn't have its vibe like it did. I'm wondering if this is going to be a balanced game (which it COULD be) or just another game to throw in the golden Trey-arch vault

PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS I really don't want this to be a one-sided argument. I would love to hear your guy's stand on it.

I would just like to say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has ruined gaming. Don't get me wrong it was a great game, but MOST games today try to be Call of Duty. The Call of Duty franchise is now a must have for any gamer on any console. Activision needs to stop trying to milk their dead horses they now own. They know they had something great so they had to get a new company that they had total control over to make another one so they could put one out every year. Once you have defined a genre you cant slap a new coat of paint on it and make it a new game. After the initial month of playing the crap out of them you realize how bad they are.

Take Modern Warfare 2 for instance. In my opinion the game is complete garbage. Infinity Ward, however, managed to make a game that no matter how much i whine and complain about every little bug, glitch, and cheap tactic yet the controller is still in my hands and I'm still playing. I have to give it to them for making this possible but maybe if it worked too then it wouldn't be trash.

I am getting Black Ops on launch. I foresee this game to suck just as much. unfortunately you can't not get this game. I will play it for many hours and judging by the gameplay footage it is still MW2 with a paint job. All I ask is, "Why Activision? Why must you rape all these people of their time and money for a broken, outdated copy of CoD 4?" I will see you all on Black Ops once it comes out and hopefully it makes me eat my words.

Agreed with both of you guy's opinions...
Call of Duty, Halo, and Battlefield is all people play for MP. I used to like the MP for CoD, until MW2 that is. The game's MP was just outright broken (and I stil think it is) hackers, modders, and 12 year olds everywhere that eye could see. I loved WaW and CoD 4's MP's though, and considering Treyarch is a making Black Ops, I can see this being a rent or buy sitsuation. I just might be pre-ordering it this weekend, im looking forward to the Campaign more than the MP this year tbh.

Yep, Onro has it perfect. It doesn't matter how bad the game is, how broken it may be, it's one of the most played games ever and that won't change until Black Ops comes out, and even then it might stay on top. There's just something about COD that's almost addicting, hell, I still play COD4.

But at least THAT game isn't trash...

Hopefully Black Ops will be better. I have faith in Treyarch (which is something I've never said before) and really want it to be a good game.

COD is like video game crack, when you finally realize it's not a s good as you thought, you still keep coming back for more. Try and stop, you go through withdraws and end up with the controller back in your hand sooner or later....

Lol try playing MW2 on pc, tons of modders...although it is fun playing GlobalThermalNuclear war ^_^. As for Black Ops, I for one LOVED WAW for various reason I don't feel like explaining right now (alot of it being Zombies). If Black Ops Multiplayer fails, I still have an expensive, slightly updated, version of zombies

Plus you can play splitscreen online which is a Huge plus for me and my cousin.

I agree and disagree with Onro. Yeah MW2 sucks dockey balls all the way to the bank, but its one of those games that you just can't put down. Honestly all the hackers, modders, and 12 year olds have a special place in my heart. I can't wait for Black Ops mainly because of the originality in the playlists that Treyarch is bringing to the table. Wager Matches all have a very original spin that really works on alot of players weak spots in their strategies and also forces them to use weapons they are not usually used to. I honestly can't wait for this game purely based off that. I'm going to have no money at all for weapons because of the Wager Matches.

I'm always in it for the multiplayer, and I'm just hoping that this game wont turn into another World at War with just the SMGs. Balanced Gameplay is something that's very hard to come by in shooters, and it seems to be a big part or Treyarch's problem. I'm mostly worried about that.

Yeah Wager matches are one of the things I'm looking forward to the most. Defiantly going to be fun.

I have manged to resist pre-ordering this one and blinly trowing more of my money at Activision. I have it on my gamefly list so if the MP isn't a broken mess I will eventually buy it, but I'm not paying $60 for a glorified zombie game if that's all I like. Treyarch has not made any COD games that I really liked yet & I don't expect that to change.

Wow, this is turning into my favorite thread. You guys all have very viable, legitimate sounding opinions that have really made me think about this game.

All in all, I'm kinda proud of Treyarch. They have a huge weight set on them to one up one of the biggest games released in this console generation. Yes, this game has faults. Yes Treyarch doesn't have the best track record. The thing about Treyarch is however, is they care for their games. They released a bunch of patches to try to make WaW playable for everyone, such as catching trigger modders on the rifles and fixing all the glitches in the zombie games. Infinity Ward maybe released 2 or 3 patches that barely did shit. They were too busy sitting on their money piles to care about the "amazing game" they created. Yeah some people say them releasing DLC would count as caring, but honestly they only built 5 or so new levels. The "redesigned classics" from CoD4 dont take long to make. I'm a Game Design major in college right now, and it's pretty obvious to me now that Infinity Ward copy pasted the old levels into their new engine, upped the resolution on the environment skins/props and messed with the weather on the levels. This could probably take 20 people 2 weeks to do.

But just like I said in my other post, I'm still getting this game the second I'm back at my xbox.

wow MW2 Is just gay now because its just a bunch of 10th prestige nuke boosters but CoD series isnt a fail Black Ops looks awesome. Now im not much of a Halo guy but I got Reach so I play it until black ops comes out. Main reason im not a Halo fan is cuz it takes like 2 mags to kill someone with most guns. So I get reallly mad and play like forge which is fun too.

Also, treyarch although they may be kinnda lame their playlists are better then IW like in MW2 after the map packs came out i wanted to play S&D in them but i couldnt just do that it was so annoying.
