Braid is the best puzzle game ever made.
Braid, is a 2D puzzle game that has 200 total gamer score. Last time I bought it it was worth 1200 points, but in my opinion it should have gone down to 400 by now. The game is amazing, and I can't express that enough.
First of all, Braid is about a young man named Tim who used to be the princess's lover. But apparently Tim made a mistake in the Princess's life, and so she turned away and "hit Tim with the braid of her hair," and ran away. Tim wanted the princess to forgive him, but she would not accept it. And now Tim must travel to seek out the Princess and try to win her love back.
I didn't exaggerate the story; that's a first! I guess I really like the story that much in the case of Braid, because it was very emotional to me.
Braid revolves around solving puzzles by playing with the concept of time. It reminds you of Prince of Persia, but this game goes deeper. Your goal is to find the puzzle pieces in each world to move on in the game, then arrange the pieces to solve a jigsaw puzzle.
There was this feeling that I kept getting as I played the game, that some pieces that I saw I couldn't get until later in the game. But I was wrong, you could get them right now if you knew how to do it. The puzzles are very clever and no two are identical. I have to admit every time I saw the name of the next Act, I knew I would be doing something I haven't already in the game. This means every new puzzle is fresh and complicated, but when you solve the puzzle, you'll be saying "eureka!"
In this game, you have the power to rewind time. However, in some other levels, you have different time powers that change the way you think about some puzzles. The way these puzzles are crafted are amazing and will have you thinking in ways you haven't before.
So we know the puzzles are good, but the graphics are even better. And I thought the SNES was good looking enough already. There great environments and the atmosphere of the music feels good. Probably the best music I ever heard. And even though I hate classical music, it's very rare for me to appreciate music like this. I guess it's because it's original and not old standbys like Beethoven or Mozart.
The playability of the control scheme is top notch and very simple. X is rewind time, A is to jump........... and that's about it.
Overall, the game is amazing. All I can say was that only one puzzle was frustrating because it required near perfect timing, and the game isn't worth playing a second time when you know all the puzzles. There's only one boss, but different variations of him. Due to the fact it had a great story, great puzzles, and the best surprise twist in a game I haven't seen since Bioshock, the game is a must have. This game is the best puzzle game ever, even better than Tetris.
Overall score: 9.9.
I know where you live. Buy this game now, or I'll kill you.
