i make this thread because Behemoth's frontman, Nergal, is now being taken to court for a Bible ripping incident back in '07. i believe it was wrong what he did(its like me ripping the jew's book, or the muslim's book) but still.....jail time for it? what's your views.

Freedom of speech. You can say what you want - to an extent. But he shouldn't be punished.

I'll admit I only read the first 5 pages of the bible, but yes he should be punished. Countries like Poland support a Christian church with a tax. In America, our taxes don't go to the church, therefore it is OK for us to do something like that here.
Actions like these can hurt the government, and some laws need to be upheld. Even if it was OK to rip the bible into tiny pieces, I'd still wouldn't do it, just because a lot of people wouldn't like that if I did it. Then again, who would want to rip a book?

I could honestly care less, people's religious views don't meant anything. However, as it was said, since it is against the law in the country he did it in, he should be punished.

Quote by Melissa Evol:
Freedom of speech only applies in america... it also only applies to speech. He literally TORE the bible into pieces, lol. Since he's polish, and it was done in Poland, where it's punishable by jail time, yeah, I'd say it's wrong. He broke his country's law.

Well I'm sure Melissa can defend herself but what I believe she meant was that AJ had said the guy shouldn't be punished due to freedom of speech. That is America's first amendment. Not every country has that rule. So you can't aruge that as a reason for no punishment. That's all she was saying.
On a note if its a law in Poland (where 85% of the population is Roman Catholic) he should be punished appropriately.

Fuck no he shouldn't be punished. I don't give a damn whether people think it's "right" or "wrong", I personally feel it's retarded for the country to have a LAW against tearing up a certain book, no matter which ancient magic book it is.
The fucking government ought to be praising Nergal and giving him money since Behemoth is one of only 3 decent things to come out of Poland since sausage (Vader and Vesania are the others) and thanks to them it now has a thriving metal scene, interested record labels, and large music festivals that bring in money and tourism.
This same kind of crap happened a couple years earlier when Gorgoroth had a concert there. Some uppity Catholic police wanted to charge the band with "religous offense" which is punishable by 2 years of jail time there!
Ultimately, I'm sure Nergal knew it was a crime since he's from there, and he did it anyway in a public venue so he should face whatever music he gets, but it doesn't make this crap any less retarded or Dark Ages.
