I have to agree on "A Link to the Past" that and Super Metroid are in my top 10 all time games lists, along with Castlevania SotN.
August Community Spotlight: Dirty Durtie
Here to send off your summer with a wad of spit in your eye is your favourite minister of the obscene, and I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the more affable scallywags amongst the motley crew that hangs around XBA. You may know him as a Reject from WarTown, but a lot of us call him Durtie.
META: What it do, Durtie? What's the story behind your Gamertag?
DURTIE: First off, thanks for selecting me for the community spotlight. I'm not that interesting, lol. I got the nickname Durtie years ago. My real name is Dustin. People call me Dusty for short. You get where I'm going with this. My gamertag comes from my cities name. I live in Warner Robins, Georgia. Home of the Warner Robins Demons. War Town is my city's nickname. So you see, it's all just a play on words. I don't smell bad and my town isn't at war, lol.
M: How did you find out about XBA?
D: My discovery of Xboxamerica is very typical. I saw a gamercard and I wanted to see how I ranked against people in Georgia. I didn't do too well, lol. I enjoyed the people here. So I decided to stay. Now, it's a daily routine to stop in and say hello.
M: Alright man so now I have something a bit personal and controversial I want to cover. What's your stance on the situation in Gears of War 3 with Clayton Carmine?
D: Save that motherfucker! Really guys, is two games really enough to start a tradition? Every year, for 19 years, I would go to the Cherry Blossom Festival in my hometown. Now that's a tradition. But two Carmine's dying....come on, that's no tradition. Keep Clayton alive. He has feelings too.
M: What got you started in gaming, and what system would you say you enjoyed the most, excluding the 360?
D: Although I started on the Nintendo. The Super Nintendo turned me into a gamer-o-sexual. Super Mario Bros 2 was a slice of heaven. I would play that game for days. When Super Mario Bros 3 came out, I knew that I would never come home and do homework again. The game that really brought me in was "A Link To the Past", that game was the best game ever! In my top ten list, that game is number one.
M: What stuck out to you at E3?
D: Gears of War 3 had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Halo Reach did the same thing. I really think I'm gonna be playing Reach non stop til GOW3 hits the market. Twisted Metal really hit me hard. Unlike GOW and Reach, I had no idea it was coming. So I was really excited. It looks like my PS3 might get some use after all. Sorcery looked awesome and is the only reason why I'm probably buying Move for Sony. Donkey Kong Country and Skyward Sword are gonna be the funniest
games ever to exist on the Wii. I can't wait for that. The worst of E3 goes to Ubisoft. Battle tag looked so stupid. its not a bad idea, but its not E3 worthy. I'm not sure what Ubisoft was thinking when they brought that out.
M: What are your feelings on the Kinect?
D: I'm not sure how I feel about it. It seems cool, but then it seems too casual. I really want the new Reach console. So I think that's where my money is going this year. I just don't see myself jumping around in front of my tv just to play a game.
M: Tell us a little bit about the man behind the durt. What other stuff do you do for fun besides gaming?
D: I love to hang with friends. Especially at the house. I love the 2 dollar movies! I'm actually taking my girlfriend to go see the A-Team tonight, then to Taco Bell afterward. Yep, after 7 years of being together, I still take my girl out on dates. Just back then it cost about 50 bucks. Now, ten bucks. I love cars, but due to my finances, I can't enjoy them anymore. I love looking for ghosts. My friends started a ghost hunting team called G.H.O.S.T., not sure what that stands for. I don't really believe in ghosts, I never seen one. But it's fun to go along at 2 in the morning to weird places seeing everyone get spooked out. I love to walk. My girl and me go walking everywhere! Which is strange, cause I'm a big guy. We don't do it for weight loss purposes, we do it for fun. Mainly nature stuff, ya know. Of course, the main thing we do together is game. We have two Xboxs and two tv's, right beside each other. So we’re always together when we game.
M: What kind of music are you jamming to lately?
D: Mainly alot of Hip Hop. The typical southern stuff. Alot of Young Jeezy, TI, Outkast, ludacris, BOB. I also enjoy Kanye West, Jay-Z, the game...alot of mainstream rap. I tend to listen to a lot of underground shit, nothing that's really famous though. So I won't bother to list those groups. I'm also listening to a lot more rock because of my girlfriend. She's opening me up to a lot of older shit. I guess since we share a car now, I have to put up with rock being in the CD player.
M: What's a movie you really enjoyed and would recommend to almost everyone?
D: I'm not really a movie guy. I tend to stick to music. i do love 80's action movies though. Something with Rocky or something with Seagal in it. So I guess i would recommend the Expendables! I haven't seen it, but I plan to.
M: Team Edward or Team Jacob?
D: …
M: Team Edward or Team Jacob man! Answer!
D: Team..........Edward! I hope you’re happy with yourself.
M: What?! You would like the tall sparkly ones, you freak. How can you say 'no' to those big, muscular, hairy.... um...
...what do you think is more fun, the semi-realistic type action of MW2 or the gritty, graphic novel-style of Gears online?
D: MW2 is a blast to play. Especially if you play for fun. Just turn on the game, ignore the campers and glitches. Its an overall great game. Gears is my game though. I love blowing people to bits with a shotgun. Its really hard to compare the games. So I'm going with Gears. Once GOW3 comes out, I'm sure everyone will agree.
M: And finally, what would you do if someone handed you a hundred dollar bill right now?
D: I'd buy some old 360 games. I really want Army of Two:TFD and my girl wants to start the Mass Effect games. I already got the first one, so I'd buy the second one for her. Then I'd go to Arby's with the rest. Gotta love that roast beef.
