I use AVG Free, and Spy Bot Search and Destroy. The combination of the two really works well for me, and they are free. Of course there are anti-viruses worse hundreds of dollars which work great.

I've been using Avast! Antivirus for about a year now... Haven't had any problems yet, it keeps a close eye on the ads from sites you're going to. I was on x360a last night and it found an ad trying to download stuff to my computer. It's completely free for home use (business use requires a subscription). Just sign up for it and they'll email you a product key that you enter at start-up which will last for 1 year. After that year just go back to their site and there's a place where you can either renew your key or get a new one (don't remember which).

Microsoft Security Essentials is free from Microsoft. Also go to googles site, they offer a antivirus program for free as well. I use the microsoft one because i have windows 7. But on my wifes laptop, im gonna try the google one when her windows live subscription expires in the next 4 months.
