I bought it when it came out but have yet to finish it due to midterm exams but have to say I've paid much more money for a much worse game in the past.
As for gameplay it seems Remedy took everything people didn't like in the first game and fixed it (think the short sprint time, lack of ammo, linear levels)
The plot is rather bland compared to the first game but it expands on the AW universe which is perfectly fine by me.
I just finished playing Alan Wake on the PC, and I don't know why people would complain about this. Of course you're not going to be able to sprint forever, realism sucks like that lol. As for the ammo thing, never once did I find myself having to save or scrounge for ammo unless it was the beginning of a new episode.
I also had no problem with the spring time, it made getting to lighted areas more difficult and enhanced the atmosphere of the game in my opinion but a large number of people had problems with it.
I routinely ran out of ammo on my 1st playthrough and it was frustrating, on my 2nd and 3rd not so much because I knew what to do, when to fight and when to run. In AW:AN however I never have ammo issues so I fight everything I see which pleased a large portion of the fans.
I personally liked having to budget my ammo more in the first one but a lot of people like this system better.
NOTE (When I say "a lot of people" I refer to what general opinion comes across to me based on reviews/message boards).
