I only had "stealth" achievements when I had notifications turned off or when I was set to "busy" status. Can't say I've had any that did what happened to you without it being my own fault.

Yeah that happened to me on a couple games, I dont know why but it usually happenes when you get an achievement at the same time a friend gets online. Also make sure you dont have notifications turned off.

Its in the xbox menu (like hit the big X in the middle of your remote) and go all the way over to the right on the settings tab. There is a Notifications setting you can change it. I personally would suggest going down to preferences instead and setting your online status to "busy."
Notifications will stay off until you turn them back on, busy will go away if you log off and log back on. I turned notifications off once and forgot to turn them on and got mad because achievements weren't popping
Then I found out I was stupid...lol

This happened to me with Lips... Nothing would pop up and I wasn't away or busy or anything, never touched disable notifications... To this day, when I go to the game on my console it shows I have 0 gamerscore, but when I click it it shows all the achievements I have unlocked. It's really weird but as long as I get the points to my overall gamerscore I'm happy, I guess...

this is a classic case of not checking on your own, it is very easy to bring up the guide and see if your GS went up...

2010 Tournament Winner

Happened to me while playing Bioshock. I got to level 30, and the achievement didn't pop up. Same thing with the Audio Diary achievement. I was SO scared both times lol.

jen's level 30 didn't pop either, lol.
she joined a game, grabbed a couple ADAM vials and the host quit.
the ADAM was enough to bump her to 30 but no achievement.
thankfully, it unlocked as soon as she joined another game.
