The news of "Xbox Originals" has come out. And the big debate has been "why pay 1200MS Poins ($15 USD), when I could just get the used game for $5?" Or, in the case of the original Halo, brand new for $10 from Best Buy.

Many people have said "well, if they add achievements, or add LIVE capability, I would pay for it!" Nobody was sure if they would or wouldn't. Trouble is, based on this article, we now know "they won't."

What gave it away for me is the compatability issues list, seen here:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xboxoriginals/issues.htm

They are all the same as the current backwardscompability problems in the games right now. Fuzion Frenzy will have some lag issues, Fable with audio static, etc...

If they haven't "gotten around" to fixing that stuff (so to speak, of course it's not always 'just that easy'), then it's not likely they've taken the time to add achievements. And it's even LESS likely that they took the time to add Xbox Live multiplayer code and all of that jazz to Halo!

But, still... the ability to download classic Xbox games, at what is a reasonable price... what do you think?

It is fairly simple to add achievements to a game. There is no way microsoft will release these originals without achievements. Hate to burst your bubble, but no where in your article does it say there will be no achievements... that is something you incorrectly assumed.

Assumed, yes - incorrectly? That was yet to be proven. But considering that the easiest way to make games like this available would be to take the disc images (ISO's) of these games, and basically just send them over the network. It's that simple, that basic.

The "article" I linked to wasn't a 'features' article, it was an 'issues' page. The issues are exactly the same as the issues that those games currently have. If they have been unable to fix something as simple as a texture compression problem, why would they take the time to add a bunch of achievements and random parts in the game?

Just explaining my logic. But, unfortunately for everyone, it has been confirmed by Trixie and MajorNelson, these games will not have achievements.

No they do not add achievements to Xbox Originals so unless you really want the game there is no point in getting it

Without LIVE and Achievements there is absolutely no point to anyone with access to a used games store.

On the other hand, if you are out in the middle of the B.F.Egypt and only have a Wal-mart stocked with new titles to choose from, this could be good.
I still want to play Psychonauts but I am of course going to buy it used and get a disc box and booklet instead of a big HDD-hogging download.

My take is that Microsoft needs another revenue stream ... and what better way to extract (more) money from the consumer than drum-up some retarded way to force people to re-buy games, which in turn forces customers to buy Microsoft's proprietary hard drive.

It's all a scam ... if you want the old games, buy them used. Or, buy a used Xbox if the game isn't compatible with the Xbox 360.

Remember, Microsoft does not care about you. The only thing they want is your money. Once you realize this, you'll be cynical ... at least you'll know the truth.
