Gamepro Magazine reports:
How much will it cost? Microsoft isn't saying
At E3, Microsoft unveiled its plans for the still-mysterious Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive. The unit will connect to your Xbox 360 using a standard USB cable, but will almost certainly require an external power source (i.e., another power outlet).

A USB cable connects to the 360
The bad news? We still don't know much about either the release date (currently described as "holiday") or the price. GamesIndustry.biz reports that retail sources are predicting that Microsoft will bundle the Xbox 360 and HD-DVD drive together in a retail bundle that will come in below the PlayStation 3's entry $499 price point, but that remains to be seen. Earlier reports, such as one given by CNN Money's Chris Morris, pegged the HD-DVD drive at a much higher price -- possibly as expensive as the Xbox 360 itself, or $299-399. At this point, it's all conjecture.

As for a release date, late 2006 seems like a likely time, but Microsoft isn't confirming or denying anything at the moment outside of "holiday."

In other news, Microsoft also unveiled several other accessories at E3 2006, including a Wireless Steering Wheel, Wireless Xbox Live Headset, and Xbox 360 Camera. All three new accessories are expected to be out later this year -- Microsoft hasn't been precise with its plans.

More soon.

Microsoft HDMI Cable Announced, Sorta
READ MORE: Cable, HD-DVD, HDMI, Home Entertainment, xbox 360
Lik-Sang, purveyor of all things accessory, has spilled the beans about the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable. After Microsofts HD DVD announcement at E3, people were wondering whether HD DVDs would be capable of playing at full resolution on analog component cables, since there was no HDMI cable available for the 360. Well, that particular question hasnt been solved, but we do know that there is an HDMI cable for the 360.

The cable isnt actually available yet, but you can place yourself on the list to be notified when it is. Note that this is an official Microsoft cable, so it should be widely available by the time the HD DVD drive is released.

Accessory Pricing Rumors

A source from within Microsoft has tipped off the guys over at Joystiq with some prices for the new Xbox 360 peripherals. However, there was no mention of the HD-DVD player.

"

360 wireless gaming receiver (which enables wireless 360 controllers, headsets, and wheels on your PC): $20

Wireless racing wheel: $130

Wireless headset: $60

Xbox Live Vision Camera (with headset, one month of Live Gold, and one arcade -- presumably Xbox Live Arcade -- game): $40

New faceplates for Halo (with the Master Chief on 'em, but not Halo 3 specific) and Forza (no word on connections to the sequel): $20 each

256 MB portable memory unit (MU): no official price yet, but definitely not four times the cost of the older 64MB MU

Mreh. No hurry going to HD-DVD. I look at it as going from dolby digital to DTS...just not that big of difference.
