Mayhap if your small amount of faith is so easily displaced, it was misplaced to begin with.
Be of good cheer my friend!
Things will get better.
Or they will get worse.

If you make bad decsions then you will be voted out, and this is a country where majority should rule. beside nothing is going to happen over night the old republican way wasn't work why not try something different for at least 4 years you might like the change. sorry about your luck.

As you all know, Obama was elected President. While I disagree with this choice, this is not the reason why I think the people of this country made some horrible choice in the 2008 elections. As (hopefully) many of you know the our government has a system called "checks and balances" or a separation of powers. Where America's three branches limits the powers of the other ones.
Well, after the 2008 elections I see the separation of powers are pretty much gone. With Obama as President and the democrats making historic gains in congress and with some Supreme court justices getting closer to retirement I just don't see how their could be a check on the democrat's power.
This truly scares the hell out of me, and I think it is incredibly stupid of the American people to let one political party get that much control of the American government.
I know some of you will argue Republicans were the majority in congress for a while, but there is a difference. Between 2005-2007 Rep. had 55 seats in the senate and dem. had 44. Between the same period the Rep. had 231 seats in the house and the dem. had 202. This is the last time Republicans had the majority in Congress
But starting in 2009 things just get ridiculous. The dem. will have 56 seats in the Senate compared to just 40 seats to the Rep. And in the House the dem. get 254 seats compared to the Rep. who get 173.
So basically the amount of power the democrats will get personally scares the hell out of me. I remember when people complained when the Republicans had majority in congress and a Rep. President. You'd think if they didn't like a party have that much power why would they do it again only give that party even more power?
Also, sometimes I wonder why people, for lack of a better why of me explaining this, have the democrat party on a short leash, but not the Republican party? An example of this is why was everyone on Sarah Palin case about her inexperience, but quickly forgot or dismissed Obama's? I mean she was running as the Vice President, not the President like Obama! Now I know McCain was old, but it seem to me like people were more critical of her inexperience and that she wouldn't be fit for the position, but gave a pass to Obama.
Well...this is my rant. This is just my opinion. I know most of you will disagree with me. But I just felt the need to express myself somewhere and most of the people who I personally know just ignore me....
Just for reference purpose here's where I got the numbers on the seats in congress:

i dont really seeing that being a problem....at one point in history there was only one Party. who do you think had the power then? correct me if im wrong but i believe it was Democrat and I believe they got completely rid of the Fedaralist party(feel free to check to see if im right..im not sure)....anyways...i dont think just because the majority of the people are democrat that it will have any impact on how much power someone gets....people still have common sense...hopefully

hjey man, thats america for you. majority rules
and the main reason the dem. were overrunnning the house n senate was because people hated bush, and so they were hoping voting in democrats would fix some stuff...it didnt, but at the time it seemed like a good idea

This is correct. At one point very early in our country, the Democratic-Republicans had enormous control over the government. After the Hartford Convention, the Federalist party was literally no more. The result was a 'dangerous' one party rule, and was a great test of democracy very early in our nation's life. The result was that the Democratic-Republicans began to split. There will always be opposition.
If our country was able to survive a one party rule so early in our country, I think we can survive with a slight majority 150+ years later.

I agree with this and the general consensus in this thread. Just because the large majority of the branches of the government lean to the left, doesn't mean that the majority will agree with bad decisions. Checks and balances are still alive despite the overwhelming majority.
This is all back lash from the American voters based on what has happened over the last 8 years. Like it or not, this is the democrat's 4 years to prove that America can get back on track.
I was scared when I first saw the huge swing, but I will NOT lose faith in America! We have gotten through worse, and I remain optimistic!
Also, there ARE worse places to live!

Having spent your entire life
Exactly where you are tonight
In the valley between intent and deed
You must have mastered this
The fragile art of a good excuse
And the little things that get you to believe
that get you to believe
So listen I'm not trying to prove anything at all here
But don't you think that maybe this time you were wrong?
You've spent your entire life
Quick-tongued and always right
Hasn't being right just let you down
So listen I'm not trying to say anything at all here
There isn't much left anyway that hasn't been said
But don't you think that possibly this time its different
Don't you think that maybe this time you were wrong?

Yes I dug up an old thread - stupid bots looking at it.
I just wanted to point out how cool it is to have a president do what he says he is going to do during campaigning. In case anyone didn't remember - I didn't vote for Obama, but I am very impressed so far with what he is doing. He is surrounding himself with people who aren't going to be "Yes" men and women. I read an article that stated "Liberals mad at Obama's cabinet selections" or something like that, of course all news is opinionated even when its supposed to be unbiased - but didn't Obama say he would put republicans in the cabinet and try to do what's best for the country even if it wasn't his idea/opinion? I also know all presidents have people mad at them at some point - you can't please everyone.
I know Obama hasn't taken over as pres yet, but I am very optimistic as to the kind of leader he will be - even if I don't agree with everything he does.
Plus - who cares who has the majority in everything? Everyone has to be on the same page for things to get passed/pushed through. Lets face it just because someone is a "Democrat" or "Republican" doesn't mean they are cans in a 24 pack of Coca-Cola and will all be the same when you open them up. They are different people with different ideas! If I ever ran for any position it would probably be as a "Republican" even though I don't claim the party anymore due to the nutjobs ruining it - I lean more conservative in certain issues, not all of them!!!
Here's a sincere wish that President Obama does a GREAT job and proves any doubters wrong !!!
GO AMERICA!
AMERICA FTW!!!!
