Tattoos and jobs

I know a few people on Xbox America have tattoos and for those of you that have them, I was wondering if it has ever affected what job opportunities were available to you. If I were to get a tattoo, it'd probably be on my outer upper right arm by the tricep. I guess if it was hidden by long sleeve shirts it wouldn't be a problem...

I recently got a tattoo on my left shoulder blade; it'll never affect getting a job. It sounds like where you would want to get it would be easy to cover; my suggestion would be to just make sure you get it in a spot that can be easily concealed, and you'll never have a problem.

Yes my employer makes all of his employees cover up their tattoos. Most of them cover them up by wearing long sleeves shirts or wrist/arm bands. (and they pay for it in the summer)
Yea, I want one on the inside of my arm, but will probably never get it for that reason; my current job wouldn't care, but when I move on I don't want to be stuck with long sleeves in the MA summers, lol.

i don't have a tat yet, but if i did it wouldn't be a problem.
employers can't exactly discriminate against it, but they can find other reasons not to hire you. or fire you. just depends on the job.

I haven't had any problems with jobs and my tattoos. Mainly because my current and only job at the moment is basically working for myself/parents. But back when I did have 2 jobs my other employer (chicken farm) didn't really care just as long as I did my job.

Yes, there's not much I can do to cover up the one on my face, but in the field that I'm in, my resume is more than impressive enough to overshadow that. I'm pretty sure that if they want the best man for the job, I will have no problems!

I have a bunch of tattoos and I have many piercings also. It can be very hard getting a job if you have certain areas modified. I have a giant tattoo on my forearm that can be covered but it is pretty hard to do. I also have five piercings in my face that make it extremely hard for people to get past. I have found that if you need to get a job with all this stuff done, it is better to go somewhere that is out of the public's eye so that you don't "dis-grace" the company. I have had to hide my piercings and tattoos for jobs before. It really sucks that you can't show off who you are. I currently work in a warehouse where there are a lot of people who have piercings and tattoos. It is a lot easier to deal with it when the only people who see you are co-workers and not some snobby bastards who think that they are better than you because of the modifications. That's my opinion, we welcome yours!
EDIT: FYI I just lost my job tonight. They dumped me and told me thanks for letting them $*%& me over for a year now. YAY!

i got my first tattoo on my right wrist when i was working at a law firm. they wanted me to cover it up with a wrist band on long sleeve shirts(in the summer!!) so i went through the employee handbook and it said nothing about tattoos. so the next time my boss told me to cover my tattoo i just handed him the book and asked him to show me where it said i had to....not another word

I think it matters.
Depending on where you are trying work ( as others have said) the prescence of tatoos may hurt your chances. Corporate environments dont want that, I dont even wear my earings into interviews or into the office ( Plain Cubic studs). And I'm assuming you would be in an office environment in the beginning of your professional career, so I would go with an easily concealed location for your tat.
