I'd like to see you be able to use any achievement picture as a gamerpic. There are a couple really neat ones I'd like to use.

That is correct. Instead of a Spring Update for Xbox Live, we will have to wait for this Fall. But that doesn't mean Microsoft isn't updating some of the features of Xbox Live. Read on:

The biggest change is a series of new policies with a new internal approach and investment in the way the Xbox LIVE Arcade business is going forward. While the service has had a lot of success and now boasts over 130 titles, Xbox Live will start to focus on quality over quantity. This means that they need to allow developers more time and more space to make even bigger and better games. So they have officially increasing the XBLA game size limits dramatically from 150mb to 350mb and are also giving publishers more flexibility in how they price their games and opening up a new 1600 Microsoft Points price point for some of these now bigger and better games. It also opens the door to start dropping two 800 MS Point games every Wednesday to boost player choice in purchases.

We have already seen a title that is taking advantage of this and getting great response, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One. In addition to allowing these bigger and better games, Xbox Live will be delisting older underperforming titles in order to keep the service focused on a section of high quality games. The way it will work is that the title will need to be at least 6 months old and have a Metacritic score below 65 and a conversion rate below 6% on the service. This way titles are not just considered if they are not selling well or not getting good reviews, but actually a combination of both. Xbox Live will also give a three-month notice before delisting any title. Overall it will focus the catalogue more on larger, more immersive games and make it much easier to find the games you are looking for. The potential list of games on the chopping block are as follows:

236 Robotron: 2084 2006 65
237 Bankshot Billiards 2 2005 65
238 Feeding Frenzy 2006 65
239 Dig Dug 2006 65
241 Ms. Pac-Man 2007 65 65
246 Gauntlet 2005 65
247 Crystal Quest 2006 64
248 Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe 2007 64
252 Hardwood Hearts 2005 64
256 Texas Hold 'em 2006 63
258 Fatal Fury Special 2007 63
260 Contra 2006 63
261 Marathon: Durandal 2007 63
264 Missile Command 2007 63
265 Time Pilot 2006 63
266 Track & Field 2007 63
267 Hardwood Backgammon 2005 62
270 Hardwood Spades 2005 62
271 Pac-Man 2006 62
273 Frogger 2006 62
274 Mad Tracks 2007 62
278 Root Beer Tapper 2007 61
281 Super Contra 2007 61
288 Geon: Emotions 2007 59
289 Soltrio Solitaire 2007 59
295 Rush'n Attack 2007 58
296 TMNT 2007 58
297 Aegis Wing 2007 58
298 Defender 2006 58
300 Double Dragon 2007 57
302 Xevious 2007 56
304 Gyruss 2007 56
310 Asteroids / Asteroids Deluxe 2007 55
312 Battlestar Galactica 2007 55
315 Centipede & Millipede 2007 55
319 Spyglass Board Games 2007 54
324 Tetris Splash 2007 53
328 Ecco the Dolphin 2007 53
338 Yie Ar Kung-Fu 2007 51
341 Wing Commander Arena 2007 51
342 Novadrome 2006 50
349 Shrek-N-Roll 2007 49
354 Scramble 2006 47
358 Street Trace: NYC 2007 45
361 TotemBall 2006 44
363 Word Puzzle 2007 44
364 New Rally-X 2006 43
369 Cyberball 2072 2007 41
371 Screwjumper! 2007 40
381 Yaris 2007 17

These are all the XBLA games that scored less than a 65 and have been available for over six months (not including the first five months of this year, and December of 2007 - ie: the last six months).

This obviously doesn't include the sales-related factors but I doubt we'll be seeing the last of TMNT, Bankshot Billiards 2, Feeding Frenzy or Texas Hold'em anytime soon.

Finally, the Xbox Live team will be releasing a new digital rights management (DRM) tool next month that will allow you to better consolidate your licenses for downloaded content to a single Xbox and allow you the freedom to be able to play your content both online and offline. This new tool will officially launch next month on Xbox.com and will allow you to be able to consolidate these licenses onto one box so you can access things like Xbox LIVE Arcade games and TV show you have downloaded even if you are not online. Because this involved allowing users to re-download licenses for content that belongs to XBL partners it has taken some time to work out the agreements with them to allow this, but they have finally heard the concerns from us folks about the DRM issues and are happy to announce that everything is nearly in place to roll this out in June.

Hmm, I better get tetris splash next then... Just to make it easier for me.

I noticed you asked Kidd Cartel about Tetris Splash on his 360Voice.com blog. It's a decent game. I own it, and play once in a while, not as often as I probably would like, but I own so many damn XBLA games.

I also wouldn't count too many of those games getting delisted as the list doesn't factor in the sales conversions. There will be a three month notice before the games are removed.

It might also be good to know that perhaps after the Fall update, these games may return. It's just at this point, the Xbox Live Dashboard was designed to handle a few hundred items and there is now over 17,000 items available. The feeling is that it takes too long to find media and this is the temporary solution to an immediate problem. Especially considering the major focus on XNA Community Games which will almost double the amount of titles available through the Xbox Live Arcade once the Beta trial is finished.

And yet, this may be a ploy to cause the developers and publishers of the said games to lower the price of their titles, as Microsoft doesn't have control over the lowering of the prices of games not under their immediate umbrella. They only have a say in what said price should be to begin with.

Still though, Tetris Splash is a good game for any Tetris nostalgics out there and worth the 800 MS Points in my opinion. :)

Yeah, I loved the demo but I didn't know if the game had the appeal for longer than 5 minute bursts, lol. For instance, I wouldn't pay $60 to play tetris, which is what the 360 tetris game costs here, ^^

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the delisting- if the prices get lowered that would be pretty cool- even if this just means that new games are going to start being more original to compete for people it's a good step. (Bored with space shooters!!)

I agree. The game never held my attention very long. Probably longer than five minutes at a time though. Is that the trial version length?

So many games... so little time.

New games, new directions, and new concepts.

The XNA Community Games will bring us some good stuff. Nothing better than we already get though as far as the complainers go that don't buy anything that isn't called COD, HALO, or RS.

Big names, big money, small minds.

Once in a while you just have to look past the hype, the teenage stereotypical angst, and the super cool game this week to fit in or be recognized by your so-called peers, to find a game that is truely worth your money.

It may not be Tetris Splash. It might not be Texas Hold'em.

But it is your game. Your thing. Your genre even.

Regardless... it's worth the trial, because it's free. Every XBLA game is worth that, and even the haters must admit that. Or not. They are the ones we don't speak of though. Shhhhh....

Try it. Play it. Even Delete it.

Fun, Fart and Fornicate in Liberty City, but keep your opinions to yourself if you're from the South (excludes the ReverendMeta).

Whoa!! part of what gets a game delisted is games that get demoed without being bought. If you are positive you don't want a game then skip it.

Yes there are hidden gems, but I'm almost positive I will at least consider downloading anything I demo!
