Ranked vs Player

Anyone else really despise this system of ranked and player matches? I understand people can cheat in player matches and just hook up with their friends. If they're seriously intent on cheating, the ranked matches aren't going to stop them. I just want to be able to get online achievements without having to play ranked matches.

The thing is that it is harder to cheat in ranked matches, so there is allot less cheating.
Also if you really want the achievements just get a few friends together and cheat
just my .02

Yea, but what's the point of restricting it like that, if people can just cheat for them? The only people who aren't getting the achievements are the casual playing non cheaters.

I agree with you Pasta, I think the entire system is screwed up. I should be able to have fun with my friends and get achievements at the same time. You're right, the only people that get screwed over by this system is the casual non-cheating player. Others are still going to play ranked with their friends, no matter what they do real cheaters will find a way around it.

Yeah, I spoke out about the amount of Achievements that were based on co-op or ranked match play last year and I still feel the same way.
I see a trend of gaming getting away from the solo campaign mode and focusing more heavily on the co-op and ranked style play. While not a bad thing, there are many casual gamers out there that prefer to "go it alone" so to speak.

For me it's not really going alone. I just don't want to have to sacrifice the fun factor to get achievements. For example, player matches are more fun because you're not constantly going back to the menus after each match and having to find a new game. Instead you can just play normally, in one room, with your friends.
This whole ranked match cheating protection reminds me of DRM. Songs downloaded through the iTunes music store are protected through Apple's DRM I think called FairPlay. It makes it so you can only listen/use your music on up to 5 different computers. It also limits the devices you can play your music on. Regular consumers who just want to use their damn music are the ones that are hurt.
Now let's take the perspective of someone looking to share that music file with thousands of people. They just burn a cd, and then import it again. Some quality would be lost but who's going to be picky when their getting free music? So with the FairPlay technology, your average consumer is limited and anyone seriously trying to share the music can.
