Racism on Live?

I'm really tired of all the god damn racism I hear on live. Racial slurs are one thing, but some of the stuff I hear really isn't appropriate except maybe at your KKK meeting or something. Like I was just playing a CoD4 match of Search and Destroy and these guys wouldn't shut up about David Patterson (He's gonna be the new governor of New York) because he wasn't elected, he's black, and he's blind. He said he couldn't look at him without laughing and that the state's screwing themselves over with this guy. Other than the fact that who the hell cares if he's black or blind, he is an elected official! Now, I'm not an expert on the election process of New York, I'm still tired of all these racist bastards. Go ahead and call me a honky, call me the n word, or we can have some more stupid arguments over the British or Americans being better (Britian gave us The Beatles, we got Bob Dylan... equal), but the real racism is what bothers me. Now that's it for my ranting and ravings about the biggest problem with Xbox Live.

Does anyone else have any thoughts of these racists or how we should handle them (other than negative feedback or something). Maybe just keep it to yourself if you're gonna be like that... you are playing with people not bots.

Hasta,
Charlie

Not just negative feedback, because all that does is reduce your chance of playing with them in the future.
Actually use the 'file a complaint' option, citing Racial/Hatespeech or whatever they call it on Live, and if the person gets a few of those maybe MS can/will actually do something.

Even better, have the balls to tell the person to STFU, mute them, kick them or vote to have them kicked, etc. If they are just dumbasses looking for some attention, they'll hopefully stop. If not, I guess all you can do is neg feed & file them.

People need to learn the difference between giving an opinion versus reciting BS, biased rheotric pounded in by their ignorant-ass environment, or the difference between talking some healthy trash in chat or just clogging up public gameplay 'airspace' with shit that noone wants to hear. It sucks that sometimes, cyberspace 'anonymity' can remove people from taking responsibility of their actions & the consequences, and the other side of the argument is that if companies/institutions tighten the grip too hard they start impeding on free expression.

I think the only real, valuable thing to do is try to keep the BS to a minimum, as a community of human beings that like to play video games and nothing more. It's up to you (us) to tell them to STFU, report them, or whatever.

Just so you guys know this is how it works in NYC:

David Patterson is the Lt. Governor of New York State. In other words he is the Vice Governor. So If the Governor step down like he did the next in line is Patterson. There isn't a way to move around this really without going to court and stirring up a whole another legal mess.

As for Patterson, I work for his administration while he was still a small time politican in Harlem. The Guy is incredibly smart, good with people and well versed in the laws of the state. The Fact that he is blind means nothing but he can see he has 20/2400 vision so he is only LEGALLY blind under the law which means he can't drive a car.

On the fact that he is black, i see no difference in the way he would lead.

That's pretty awesome that you worked for him at some point. Yes, my great late night post and rant and rave. Basically anything on live gets annoying if someone says it too much, swearing, racial slurs, you name it. This is how I thought that the Lt. Govenor worked in New York also, basically a vice governor. Argued it to them, to which they were too stupid to respond of course. But it still really bothers me, I feel in some ways that I'm like a young idealist, and I have a hard time realizing that there's still so much hate in the world about such stupid things. I really have a hard time comprehending it. I know you can mute them, I know you can tell them to shut up or argue back (which I did have the cajones to do), but it is still something that these people most likely have their minds very set in. So, muting, negative feedback/complaints/whatever, and education reform (so people who are graduated from high school aren't morons like this)!

actually according to some people there are many subcategories of "racism" there is just plain racism to a certain race, gender, religion, etc.
or being racist to something as idiotic as movies genres or music.
but then again there will always be stupid immature ignorant people in the world, so the only thing we can really do as human beings is try to ignore these people and just move on with our lives.

I avoid XBL. Inmatuer people is a big reason for it. The other reason is people are forgetting it is a game and should be fun. Fools ruin an otherwise fun time.

It's very disconcerting that there are people in the world who take advantage of Live by yelling and shouting obscenities, racial slurs, and generally just be an ass.

Guaranteed that 99 percent of those people are not like that in real life and simply want to use the internet to hide behind it in order to be an ass.

It drives me nuts and it's a major reason why there are a lot of games I simply don't play online.

You want something bad? Try playing Madden, NCAA, or most sports games online. You're almost forced to sit and listen to these idiots for almost an hour unless you mute them.

The worst experience I've ever had playing a sports game was this year's NCAA. I didn't even pick a Ranked match, just a player match, and I ended up getting this kid who would scream into my earpiece whenever the ball was live. I had him muted for the first couple of quarters until I got up big on him, then to test it out, I unmuted him and the yelling only got worse.

People are stupid, plain and simple.

Ignorant people just have this inane inability to stop talking. And I was getting a calloused thumb from filing complaints on all the jerks.

I was ecstatic when Microsoft rolled out the System Mute option! I have my 360 set up so that I can only hear people on my friends list. I hear absolutely nothing else during public matches. It's made gaming so much more enjoyable.

It's certainly nice, but there are times when you would want to turn that off, such as team shooters like Halo, CoD, or now R6V2.
