My family owns a plasma tv but it doesn't get as much use as the others because of it's locations. I used to use it for the 360, and it worked well. I remember researching before we bought it and plasmas were supposed to handle gaming better than alternatives like projection. I would occasionally see the HUD of some games burned in temporarily, but it always faded away. I don't think the burn-in effect is very prevalent anymore.

I myself own a 50" Samsung Plasma TV, and I personally think it's 100 times better then the LCD HDTV in my room. The Burn in effect is there but not prevalent as Boobie mentioned, you won't really notice it unless you're looking for it.
As far as watching movies on it, it's top notch, The Dark Knight on Blu Ray... omg..
The only down side I can see to a plasma is the life of the TV. Plasma TVs die out a lot faster than LCD TVs, but even then I wouldn't trade my Plasma for an LCD TV ever. That and the fact that they don't make LCD TVs past 50 inches.
