People underestimate Viva Pinata. That game was probably the best kid game I have ever played. No joke.

I have played both MK vs. DC and QoS, in fact I have 1k'ed QoS. Your decision should be based on what you like. If you like fighting get MK if you want a FPS try QoS. For me however after playing both I can tell you that I think MK is garbage. The controls do not work (ex. combo challenges), the story is crap, and the developers dumbed down the concept that was MK. QoS on the other hand plays like CoD with a cover mechanic. It is a quick single player exp. and you can net all the single player achievements in a single play. Multi-player feels like CoD as well with custom loadouts and perks (gadgets) and is pretty solid for the most part.
I can only recommend QoS and I would def. tell you to rent it.
