Open Tray Everytime I Put In A Game Disc

Well I think my DVD Drive on the Xbox finally crapped. Everytime I put in a disc the thing just says Open Tray.

So I decided to take the box and take off the hard drive and left the dvd-rom door open, and sprayed everything down with compressed air, thinking things were dirty. Some dust came out, and all and I thought, hmmm.

Well connected everything back up and NOTHING. still the same issue. I have tried about 8 games in it (cause thats all I have) and still nothing.

So What does it take to fix this issue. And yes my system is an Elite.

Yeah i've been having the same problem to but only with a couple of my games (thank god.) I don't know if this will work but you should try putting your system settings to start the game when you turn on your 360. (haven't tried) but i will once i go buy one of those compressed air can things and blow out all that dust thats in my 360

yeah the disc startup thing doesnt work. I talked to a friend and we are gonna see if one of his extra xbox's has the same dvd drive so we can swap it out and all.

My disk drive fried about two weeks ago. There are plenty of youtube videos out there to replace your disk drive. If not that brave like me, there are some sites that'll fix it for $75 including shipping.

Just a word of caution, before you go about taking apart two 360s; as far as I know a DVD drive from any other 360 will fit. When I looked at going about doing this some time ago, however, it seemed like the DVD drives were similar to the original Xbox hard drives; they are actually paired with the motherboard in the system.

From what I was reading, specialized software was needed to read the MAC address and firmware from your original DVD drive, and then flash all of that information to the new drive. As I said, I haven't actually done it myself, and this is only the basic gist of what I can remember reading; just be prepared to do some searching and get your hands dirty, because I don't think it is a basic swap like a PC or any other kind of device. Congrats once again, Microsoft.

Just get it fixed, sell it, then go to Best Buy and buy it there. You have to pay 30-50$ for the warrenty but then they will give you a brand new one, NOT A REFURBISHED ONE! I love my xbox but screw Microsoft.

yeah, i was thinking of getting it fixed, and selling it off, and then buying a new red one with a new warranty.

Gonna see my buddy in a few hours and see what we can do to try and fix it.

I don't know if this will work, but if you can find one of the HD DVD players, would that work? Since they don't make them anymore, you might be able to find one pretty cheap

Well I havnt had the problem but my xbox just had harddrive failures and it has the ring of death. i called xbox and they said they would fix it for free. How old is your XBX? mine was 1/2 year. CAll and ask, they could maybe fix it for free

Yeah guys i feel ya happens to me all the time
wich is quite efin iritating lol so what i do ...
might not work for you guys but anyways i take apart all the things
that are connected to my xbox hard drive, memory card, wireless router
and i just blowinto the system on all sides and that usaully works BUT
sometimes it doesnt when that happens i usually leave the blank xbox there for like a day
with out anything connected and it works so i think its just build up dust that block the reader in system ........QUICK QUESTION i heard it voids the warranty if you use that compresed air can?? does it?

My DVD player on my old xbox started not closing unless you nudged it with your hand... then it started doing unreadable, then it died... THEN WE GOT 1 RED FLASHY. Lol. Fun stuff

Mine did the same thing. When I put in a disc, it acted like nothing was in there. Its a disc drive failure. Had to send it to Microsoft, luckily it was still under warranty from the last time they fixed it from RROD. Of course this was just 2 or 3 weeks later, so I was very unhappy.
