Muffinos, Excel question

Hey Muffinos, can the site host an excel spreadsheet or a table? Either independently or pasted within the body of a post? Maybe a link in a foum post to a new window that pops up an IE based spreadsheet/table/matrix?

I would like to figure out an easier way to display a matrix for game releases that is better on the eyes than my forum posts. I will add Best Buy dates along with the EB street dates I currently get. I can save the excel file as HTML and mail it to you....

Thoughts? E-mail me offline if you like the idea and we can figure it out.

I replied to the mail that you sent. I cannot attach within the Forum e-mail system.

Got it. I will put it up just as is. Is it possible to make it as .txt or .xml file? I don't have excel anymore.

I sent it to you as a .xml. The .txt loses all formatting.

The reason I asked for the xml file was because I wanted to try to create a reader so you could upload an updated spreadsheet as a .xml. Then each game would be inserted into a database so people could search through. The xml file is a little too complex for me. Oh well.

I guess we have two solutions then.

The first is I create a system so you can just easily insert games into the database and manage them without any spreadsheets ( other members too maybe ).

The second is I just create a form so you can upload the html spreadsheet, and link to it on the main page.

Which would you perfer?

Whichever is easiest. However, If I am going to research, I prefer to have the control over it. I don't want others making changes that I am unaware of.

Maybe make the link so it opens in a different window. What html editor do you use?

Muffinos, what do you think about adding this as a link under the 'Navigation' section on the Homepage. Drop it in right under 'Spread the Word' . Maybe call it "Game Releases", or "Game Street Dates".

Eventually, I could expand it to include original Xbox releases as well. Maybe links to some of the more respected review sites. Thoughts?

I don't know if you noticed, but I linked all the Best Buy and Gamestop dates to their respective pages.

Perfectly fine, I'll limit it to just you. Maybe eventually if a user has updated information, or a new game release they can 'suggest it,' and in a control panel you'll be able to use that info to make the changes to it yourself.

Sure. I'll start it off with just what we have now, but once we get that going we can start thinking bigger.

Yea, I did. Very nice job with it.

Ok, so here's my idea now that I will start right now. You (and only you) will have access to a custom control panel where you can manage (edit, delete, add) xbox 360 game releases. Then there will be a link on the homepage's navigation called "Game Releases." That'll be another page on the homepage with all the game releases in the database displayed.

Sounds good. I have an updated sheet for you.

Added Xbox Live Arcade releases and the Xbox website to the list. I dropped the sheet size to 90%, did some more linking, but removed the "underlining" that suggests a link.

Only you and I can access it. Right now you can add game releases 10 at a time ( just leave extras blank ), You can view game releases in the database, update the 'last updated' date for all of the games in the database ( if info hasn't changed ), and delete games. You cannot edit them yet. I'll work on that next, and then the page on the homepage.
