Namco Bandai's forthcoming Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation will play host to an online tournament to see who's better at controlling a virtual jet fighter: civilians or members of the United States military. The tourney starts on November 5, in partnership with the Global Gaming League.

Teams of two will compete in ladder-based rounds, with the finalists meeting in New York City to battle each other on the Gameplay HD television network. Additionally, there will be an all-encompassing battle royale match to decide the best individual pilot in both the civilian and military brackets. The overall winner will get $5,000, with runner-ups receiving over $10,000 in prizes, including 360 consoles and copies of the game.

Sure, the pretext is a little dubious, but hey -- $5,000 bucks is $5,000 bucks. If you think you got the skills, click over to the official sign-up page and throw your name in the hat. Ace Combat 6 ships on October 23.
