Like Live Arcade games, you can download trial versions of Indie Games to evaluate. So do you have any favourites? Discuss them here or maybe discover a new fix. Here's a couple I really like so far:
Colosseum - 400 pts ($5)
Developed by Shortfuse Games, this is an Arena-style fighting game. You use the left analog stick to move, the right analog to perform melee attacks/combos, and use the face buttons to use spells/abilities. The bumpers and triggers allow for blocking and evading. This game has a full story campaign you can go through with 2 pre-made characters or as many custom characters as you care to make. You can also fight it out with up to 3 other people locally. There are 4 different fighting styles with multiple weapons in each, as well as many armor and clothing pieces you can buy to outfit and customize. The tutorial does an excellent job of explaining the controls and, once you have them down, the combat is frantic and fluid, especially at higher difficulty levels. The graphics are surprisingly nice, with very colourful cel-shaded visuals. The camera is occasionally a pain in the ass.
I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 - 80 pts ($1)
Developed by James Silva/Ska Studios, the same responsible for The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai and ZP2K9. This is a top-down, twin-stick shooter where you endlessly shoot multiple types of zombies as well as many other bizarre enemies like ASCII worms and gelatinous blobs. The game's theme song is hilarious and catchy, and the combat is simple but fun. There are a few different weapon types and tons of ammo so it becomes a mindless haze of killjoy. Up to 4 people can play co-op locally. So far my top score is just under 450,000.
