In-Game Strategy Guides

Microsoft's Director of Games Platform Strategy Andre Vrignaud has filed a patent concerning a Guide system. The system would allow players to access an in-game database of tips, cheats, and strategies while playing through Xbox Live. Furthermore the system would allow users to author their own guides or add to others. "Players can then author their own guides by capturing screenshots, video clips and even add audio commentary." Game developers would also be able to access and create their own guides, that would be more accessible than user-created ones.

Any idea if they plan to charge for said guides? I may be a bit cynical but I don't believe MS does anything for free...lol.

i've read that user-created ones are supposed to be free, kind of like a youtube guide for each game. as to the developer's guides, those would probably cost you some microsoft points to access.

Games are too fucking easy nowadays. Infinite continues, regenerating health by hiding for a few seconds, checkpoints galore, and now this... in game guides for those who want absolutely no challenge...

I'm sure you'd need a guide for AC2 unless you wanted to spend countless hours trying to find all those damn feathers
And there's still the whole difficulty setting for those who still want to be challenged...

well if your using a guide thats on your xbox, then you cant play and look at the map at the same time, am i right? for AC2 as an example, im sitting infront of my tv with my computer on my lap with the map right in front of me. it works just fine. if it was on my tv screan , unless the guide could be in the corner of my screan while i play, i would MUCH rather just use the computer.

I think in-game achievement guides/roadmaps would be great, game guides - not so much.

A picture in picture (or pip) option would be fricken awesome. Especially if in that pip there was a video of what you were currently trying to get done. I would PAY for that.

AC2 has no difficulty setting so using a guide for the feathers takes the last bit of challenge out of the game.

Yeah not suggestions on the story, more on collectibles.

Did you play the first one? I used a guide to find King Richards flags in the kingdom area and still came up short by two and I went through it twice. There's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't use a guide for the lame-ass easter egg achievements.

Yea seriously, the only reason why I didn't complete the first one is because I didn't wanna end up finishing and have a couple missing.
The second one should be arriving shortly, I don't know if I'm going to complete it yet.
