Congrats. Hopefully you don't have the same problem as I did with my old toshiba satellite. That thing got so hot the motherboard melted as well as the plastic part behind the screen. . But I'm happy with the HP I have now other than me having to get a new hard drive for it a couple months back.

I got my first laptop in early June from Best Buy for $580 counting tax and it was a Toshiba Satellite with a 17in widescreen monitor. It has windows vista, AMD Turion x2 dual core processor, 3GB ram 250GB HD, 802.11 b/g wireless, DVD burner (which I have not used yet) and wireless WiFi. I really like and worth the money. My model is L355D-S7901. 1 thing I hate was the mouse so I bought a external mini mouse and it's great

Shock, just see what kind of DVDs your laptop needs and buy them, put them in the disk tray, open up Windows Media Player, go to burn, and put the movie file in the side bar.
You can see what kind you need on the disk tray, mine needs DVD-RWs, and I bought DVD-Rs a few months ago.

Find a program that rips DVDs, I've never done it so I can't help you. But google it or go to Katz and search it.

Just because it says its CD-RW or DVD-RW, it doesn't mean thats what it needs. Pretty much all CD/DVD burners say RW on them. All the RW on a CD/DVD means is that you can delete what is on it and put something else on it. I use DVD-R's for my dvd's. What kind of DVD's were you looking to burn. Personal DVDs or actual DVDs?
