Hacker: Xbox 360 Will be Fully Hacked in 9 Months
The Wall Street Journal is running a story that examines the life of Andrew Huang, a 31 year-old technology consultant who is notable for being one of the first hackers to crack into the original Xbox. He details the process in his book Hacking the Xbox: An Introduction to Reverse Engineering.
Now Huang has his sites set on a bigger target: the Xbox 360. "This box is too interesting to ignore," he tells the WSJ in the profile.
The MIT graduate meets once a month with his hacker buddies. During one such meeting, Haung makes a prediction: it will take nine more months to fully bypass Microsoft's Xbox 360 security measures. At the present, Huang's group has succeeded in "small breakthroughs" that allow them to alter game images.
But Haung isn't even sure he'll be the first the crack the Xbox 360, telling the WSJ that "the stakes are higher for Microsoft and the hacking community has intensified its efforts."
