I personally prefer Rock Band. Though I own all of the Guitar Hero games as well.

2nd thread by Charp that is soaked in gasoline and ready for a flame war.
If you had asked me last week I would of said Rock Band.
Now that I have played GH5, I say Guitar Hero.

i would say GH. i never got into the long ass story of RB. plus i find it more fun to play online in GH with battle mode and in GH5 with all their competitive modes. momentum is a ton of fun

After playing these type of games for almost three years now I prefer the Rock Band franchise. I like any game made by Harmonix. They started it all and they made the best GH titles before Activision bought the franchise and screwed the pooch. Rock Band far exceeds GH for one main reason: DLC. I haven't played GH5 yet but World Tour sucked donkey balls and Activision pooped in the tub by only making 35 songs from it exportable.

I think both games have their high and low points and I go to them for different things.
I much prefer playing drums in Rock Band, and I prefer RB2 for playing with friends. It also has killer DLC, so much real metal, mmm. I've been screaming for Behemoth and Cannibal Corpse in a music game since day 1 but never thought I'd actually see it.
I also like the little details like how you can make fully custom t-shirts, and it was an awesome surprise when I unlocked the 'ultimate metal outfit' after one of the Ultimate Challenges.
But whenever I just want to stretch the fingers and play around a bit, I plug in my X-plorer and load one of the GH games. The bonus songs in GH3 are eclectic and fun, the main setlist is quite challenging on Expert, and I have the Dragonforce DLC pack that I love blazing through with these two friends I have that are really good on guitar.
