Gamefly expands shipping centers to Austin, TX
06/16/08 10:29 am | #1
Last week, Gamefly sent word that they have finally opened their Austin, TX shipping center. The new center appears to serve Texas and states in the American heartland (see image). In addition, Gamefly promised more distro centers are on the way. Based on the current coverage area, a center in the NE (Boston area), Midwest (St Louis or Denver) or far Northwest (Seattle or Portland areas) appear to be logical destinations. Check out the e-mail announcement after the break.

I read somewhere that the Austin shipping center is servicing the following states: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and New Mexico.
now why the hell would they not include Missouri. Oklahoma is the state to the immediate south west of Missouri, Kansas is directly west of Missouri, and Arkansas is directly South. I STILL receive my games from California even though both Florida and Texas are closer! I could honestly get my games almost twice as fast if they could get their shit together and switch to either FL or TX

yeah it is pretty f'n stupid. I even email them about it and all they sent me was some automated response like "we are glad for your interest....our new shipping center in Austin TX will allow gamers to get their games faster blah blah blah. They didnt even answer the question I sent them, is pisses me off how some companies run their shit

Same center yes, but as more centers open, that should mean less pressure on the existing centers and faster service...

I wouldn't get too worked up over this. There could be several reasons (all speculative, but possible):
1. You will be getting a new shipping center (St Louis?) that will take over for California in the near future, so it makes no sense to change shipping center twice.
2. Currently, the United States Post Office (who Gamefly relies on) may have better logistics and makes it easier, cheaper or faster to ship from California to Mizzou than they do from Texas. Sometimes a straight line isn't the fastest or best way...
3. Now that the Texas center is open, California will have a ton of pressure removed from it so they should be more efficient and faster.
I'm thinking #1 is the most logical answer, especially in light of GameFly saying new shipping centers are coming...
