GLaDOS is still alive, and coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday
You are invited to return to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center this Wednesday, October 22 at 9 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PDT) via Xbox LIVE Arcade. Due to the unforeseen conclusion of your last visit, all necessary precautions have been taken to ensure that Portal: Still Alive is a sanitary, objective, and mostly non-lethal testing environment.
In addition to the original award winning first-person puzzle experience, Aperture Science is proud to provide 14 new challenge maps exclusive to Xbox LIVE Arcade. Six advanced maps will also be provided to help guide you along the way.
Though prior test subjects proved to be unstable and may have presented false information, Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that your cake is indeed waiting for you and that the Weighted Companion Cube misses you in your absence. Come visit them again for 1200 MS Points.

YIKES for a game that is basically just an expansion map pack for the real game thats nuts. Definitely sad to say I will not be buying it now as I love portal but 1200 is a bit too steep.

You guys are taling about $15 for a follow-up to a game of the year candidate. Yes, $10 would have been nice, but $15 is certainly not out in left field IMO.

My understanding is that it's the original portal with the fan made stuff that was released for free on the pc version. I wouldn't call that a follow up, exactly... there's no additional plot or dialogue from glados, which is the whole reason the first game did so well.
This stuff should have been an update for the orange box, IMO.
This stuff should have been an update for the orange box, IMO.
The key of course is it was created for the PC and not the Consoles. While it may not be fair, PC based content has usually been cheaper and more readily available than console based items due to easier distribution. There was some development costs associated with this to add the Achievements and make it a stand alone title for XBLA.
Think of it this way though, to get these free PC maps, you would have to spend about $10-$15 on the PC game, but you wouldn't get any achievements or have the ability to play with your friends on the Xbox 360.
And yes, it is a follow-up, but not a sequel....and it would probably still have cost $15 (1200 MS points) as an update to the Orange Box (which would have been more complicated than starting from scratch). But for people that do not own the game (or have sold it), they would have either been left out in the cold or have to spend even more money to get The Orange Box.
