Well, I guess it was too good to hope for. Major Nelson squashed any hope of the downloadable Xbox 1 titles having achievements. In a post on his blog, Major put the following:

I have gotten quite a few questions about yesterdays Xbox Originals announcement. Specifically, folks want to know if these games will have additional functionality like Achievements and Gamer score. The answer is no. These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release. I hope that clears that up.



So no achievements, and the bugginess that has plagued some of these titles will probably be there as well.

I'll mostly be sticking to my local EBGames "buy 2 get 1 free" bin. Bummer for Microsoft.

Watch this be their way of doing away with 'backwards compatibility' updates, though. From here on out the BC list won't change, but the "Xbox Originals" will grow in length.

Wow, that was a loss for Microsoft; I realize how much work would be entailed with adding that functionality, but if MS really wanted this to work, they should've took 1 or 2 games at a time, worked to include this and other functionality, then release them slowly. They're really pushing this to get people to buy a 360 for the holidays.

I can hear it now; a collector a generation behind walks into Gamestop to buy a used OG Xbox, and the clerk behind the counter goes "Well, the 360 just droped in price recently, and now you can buy old xbox games right through the 360 and play them straight from the hard drive." Sounds sweet if you don't know all the details.

If they can take a really old playstation port like Castlevania and add achievements to it... what is the trouble in adding achievements to fable?

I am guessing programmers laziness.
