Archived: COD: WaW downfall help

I'm right at the beginning of downfall (final mission) and I can't get past the two pillars without getting blown to crap by grenades. Any tips?

btw, what difficulty were you playin on that made it difficult?

I was playing on Veteran, and the first part of the game had so many enemies and such little cover from grenades that it makes it almost impossible. I started by getting behind the wall on the back right hand side before you go through the pillars and I slowly inched out to take out the enemies on the left side and center barricades. Then, I moved up to the pillar on the left and took out the guy on the right barricade. I ran straight forward and ducked behind the boxes and bookcases. I found a hole in one of the bookcases and killed the rest of the guys on the ground floor that I could see. I ran into the room on the right, and killed everyone in there. Just watch out for grenades and it shouldn't be too hard. Then you just gotta carefully advance until you're in the little area almost underneath the stairs, and you should get the checkpoint. Most of the rest of the mission is pretty easy if you utilize the cover and not die, but the only other notably hard part is the very end when you're in some kind of sewer area. I had a PPS-h and a Geweher equipped and I took out the panzershrek and the guy on the center barricade with my PPS. I switched to my Geweher and took out the MG with a couple of shots, and then inched my way out to kill the guys on the left. There are only three you can see, but don't move forward when you kill them, because more enemies come after them. Once you're sure all of them are dead, go into the room they came out of and kill the guy on your right. You're safe there for a little bit, but as soon as you move up to the pipes in front of you, a few guys will come out of the door. I used my PPS to take care of them, and then killed all the guys on the right. Make sure all of them are dead and then move up. Pick up the flag, and start walking forward. I won't spoil the end, but you just beat COD: WaW. Any other questions, just ask.
