I wouldnt say that gow was the first game to have you hold out in a set area while waves of enemys attack you. Look to rpgs or simple free flash and your bound to find the concept used before the release of gow2

horde has been in NUMEROUS PC titles and i have recently started seeing it in xbox nowadays.. and doesnt COD5 do horde with the zombies lol

This is the reason I'm getting ODST. Also, it looks a lot better (yet similar) than horde mode.
